The home team batted first on Friday and made a reasonable to- tal of 130 runs. Frank Spiteri top scored with twenty seven runs which included four boundaries. Tony Azzopardi made nineteen runs and Matt McKeogh sixteen runs. Amazingly their were thirty one extras which would determine the result. For CMS , G.Tan took two wickets while O.Chowdleuy, A.Tyagi,A.Moodie and D.Pastill took a wicket each. CMS were bowled out with one ball remaining in the innings. They totalled 95 runs. J.Hewton and O.Chowdleuy both made twenty runs. For Marsa Sumair Khan and Tim Wheeler both took two wickets each while, Haroon Majeeed, Tony Slater, Tony Azzo- pardi and Justin Farrin Thorne all took a wicket each. A great start for the Marsa team. On Saturday the Eton Ramblers batted first and totalled 237 from their overs. A.Carroll top scored with sixty six runs which included ten fours and two sixes, E.Russell scored thirty eight, R.Finch thirty one, J.Dunnington twenty four and T.Best twenty three runs. A good batting display all over. Could have been better if they were not bowled out in the thirty eighth over. For Marsa Derek Ali bowled well, taking four wickets, Suhrid Roy took two wickets while Ramadeep Singh, Sarfraz Ali and Ali Hamza all took a wicket each. The Eton bowlers bowled ex- tremely well and bowled out the Marsa team in the nineteenth over for 95 run. Ramadeep Singh put up some resistence making thirty two runs and Jonathan Tully smashed sixteen runs not out which in- cluded two fours and a six. For the Ramblers . J.Willis Flem- ming and E.Steel both took three wickets each while A.Taylor and E.Williams took two a piece. Big win for the visistors. On Sunday the Ramblers batted first and bettered their previous day score, this time 285 runs. E. Williams was devastating with eighty nine runs which included six fours and a six. E.Maidment was on fire with fifty one runs from thirty seven balls which included seven fours and a six. A.Taylor made thirty seven, G.Deedes twenty six and E.Russell thirty two runs. For Marsa An- drew Naudi , Adam Krishna and Sumair Khan took two wickets each and Nowell Khosla took one. The Ramblers were happy enough with their score and probably were planning what to do with the extra time they would have if they bowl out the Marsa team early again. To their surprise a hundred and twenty one run partnership from Nowell Khosla (seventy one runs, eight fours and two sixes) and Sam Aquilina (sixty eight runs, five fours and a six) kept the Marsa team well in the game, once they were out the Marsa team struggled in keeping up with the required run rate. A feisty forty runs not out from Sumair Khan towards the end of the innings was not enough to get the team over the line. The Marsa team were bowled out with an over to spare and totalled a competitive 262 runs. For the visitors A.Carroll was their sav- iour taking five wickets including the two main scorers for Marsa. G.Deedes took three wickets while E.Russell and E.Steel took a wicket each. Eton Ramblers win the series two to nil. Next Weekend sees the return of Ladymead C.C who will be on their third tour to Malta, previous tours were in 2007 & 2008 where both teams have a series win. Next Saturday the Sunoco Crick- et Academy/Nursery commences from 9:00am till 10:30am. For more information contact secre- tary@maltacricket.biz. Eton Ramblers C.C. Malta Weightlifting Association organise third ranking competition THE Malta Weightlifting Associa- tion (MWA) organized their third ranking competition on Sunday, 21st September at the Cottonera Sports Complex. This competition was of particu- lar importance as it served in part as preparation for international competitions, as well as for many other dedicated athletes during this summer who have gone through great lengths in train to improve their performance levels. It must be said that this event was a great milestone for the sport's future on a local level, with nearly all athletes registering personal bests and 19 national records being broken on the day, with a majority of which come from the youth categories. The first competition of the day was that of the female athletes, with the best results coming from Sarah Grixti, where she lifted a total of 113kg, as well as setting five nation- al records in both categories youths and juniors. Other positive results came from Natalie Borg, who to- taled 79kg and Hayley Mizzi with a total of 71kg. Good results came from guest in competition Melanie Boenzli from Switzerland with a total of 101kg. Other athletes who have made progress and are worth mentioning are Elenor Cumbo, Alexia Guigia and Amy Zammit. The second competition of the event saw the first male athletes take to the stage, and as expected was a much fiercer showing: Andy Grech totaling 131kg and earning 168 "Sinclair" points, Calvin Dean Caruana with a 155kg total and 172 points. This event also saw Marco Toma from Switzerland lifting a to- tal of 145kg and scoring 179 points, just one point over local athlete Kirstin Coleiro. The biggest chal- lenge of the day was from the top six athletes listed in the category, in which Owen Bugeja lifted 91kg in his best Snatch attempt, 3kgs over that of veteran Noel Coleiro. In the Clean and Jerk section, Bugeja lifted 101kg but narrowly missing his third and final attempt at 110kg - seeing Coleiro victorious in this category with 120kg. The best result came from Kieran Mifsud, 15 years old, who was successful in his 101kg Snatch attempt as well as a 132kg Clean and Jerk final attempt, tota- ling 233kg and setting 13 new na- tional records in both youth, junior and even senior - with these results, placing 1st in rankings and reach- ing international level quota. The challenge continued when Rodmar Pulis had shaky start in Snatch and he managed to lift the 101 kg in his last attempt, Ryan Agius continue climbing till 105 kg while Martin Pisani finished the snatch with 110 kg. In the Clean & Jerk Agius had problems to fix the bar over head and he had to wait for the last at- tempt to lift the 120 kg, Pisani con- tinued achieving good lift till130 kg but he missed his last attempt on 133 kg but in the Clean and Jerk Pulis, Pulis was more confident and lifted 138 kg with this lift he set new Juniors national record. With these results Pulis ob- tained the best result overall with 294 points, followed by Agius 277 points, Pisani 266 and Mifsud 263. The competitions were refereed by three female officials, Ramona Borg, Rodienne Balzan and Gayle Caruana, they were assisted by Alfred Ellul Mercer and Jesmond Caruana. These positive results are the fruit of hard training that the ath- letes have made over the last three months of training camps with the coach Sevdalin Marinov. These camps where not possible without the help of Malta Olympic Com- mittee, Malta Sport Council and the international weightlifting fed- eration. At the end of this week athletes Kieran Mifsud and Rodmar Pulis will represent Malta in internation- al competition in Serbia they will be accompanied by Jesmond Caruana, while Stephen Borg will participate in a congress and elections for the European Union countries he is al- so selected to referee during a com- petition for EU countries in Split in Croatia.
