Honda team-mate Dani Ped- rosa brief ly took top spot dur- ing the closing moments of the session but Márquez's final f ly- ing lap left him 0.362s up front at the head of the field. Andrea Iannone, riding Duca- ti 's updated bike, rounded out the front row of the grid in third place, ahead of Pol Espargaró and Ducati 's Cal Crutchlow. Valentino Rossi had to par- ticipate in Q1 after a poor final practice session but he was able to set the sixth fastest time in Q2, with Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo seventh. Stefan Bradl claimed eighth, with Andrea Dovizioso ninth after crashing on his last lap on the entry to Turn eight. Aleix Espargaró was 10th. Bradley Smith was 11th after crashing as he began his final run, while Héctor Barberá did well to progress through to Q2 but couldn't set a time due to a mechanical problem. Yonny Hernández was the quickest rider unable to progress from Q1 and will start the race from 13th position, ahead of Hiroshi Aoyama and Álvaro Bautista. Scott Redding was 16th fast- est, with Karel Abraham, who was uninjured following a big crash during the final moments of the session, and the return- ing Nicky Hayden in close con- tention.Alex de Angelis will line up in 19th, ahead of Danilo Petrucci, Michael Lavert y, Broc Parkes and Mike di Meglio. Chester doubts F1 will enforce telemetry ban LOTUS Technical Director Nick Chester says he doubts Formula 1 will add a telemetry ban to its radio clampdown as the sport continues to explore ways of reducing the amount of assistance drivers receive. Ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, the FIA announced plans to intro- duce wide-ranging restrictions on ra- dio messages, although the majority were ultimately delayed until the 2015 campaign on the grounds of safety. Whilst a subsequent telemetry ban has been mooted, Chester does not envisage such a situation arising. "I think telemetry won't be banned; it would be tricky to know if the car has a puncture or something is about to fail," Chester explained. "You would have no way of telling if the car is safe or not. It would be a step backwards." Chester says Lotus is likely to adopt the larger LCD steering wheel display next season, which is already being used by the majority of the grid, to make up for the information drivers are losing through the radio restric- tions. "On the positive side, you can get a lot more information to the driver with a large display," he added. "The downside is that the wheel will be heavier, which is one of the consid- erations for staying with the smaller display. "Next year we will likely go for a larger display steering wheel.
