Events 41 maltatoday, Sunday, 5 OctOber 2014 G4S and Guard & Warden Service House Ltd provides security in support to children's regional sport event G4S and The Guard & Warden Ser vice House Ltd. were the main sponsors of a children's sports event being organised by the Regional District for the South East on Saturday 27 Sep- tember at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Ħamrun. The Regional SportsFest saw the participation of over 50 0 children from 14 Local Coun- cils who competed in differ- ent sports disciplines and was hosted under the auspices of H E Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta. All pro- ceeds from this event were in aid of the Malta Communit y Chest Fund. Speaking about the event, Jes- mond Aquilina, President of the Regional District for the South East said that through this event, the Regional Committee will be presenting a Defibrillator Unit to each of the 14 Local Councils wi- tin this South Eastern District to be used by the respective Local Councils during sports events held in their localities. "We are delighted with this op- portunit y to be an active part in the success of this SportFest event, this year in its second edi- tion. We are also proud that this event will be a platform for us to deploy our people and ensure a secure environment during this event," said Eder Catania, Com- mercial Manager of G4S Malta. "Traffic safet y forms an intrin- sic part of our ser vice and we are proud that Guard & Warden Ser vice House has become a ref- erence point when it comes to this sector and is trusted at such level," added Miriam Barbara, Operations Manager of Guard & Warden Ser vice House. "Ensuring the safet y of all the participating children at this SportFest event was our main commitment and we hope that through our involvement, chil- dren came to better appreciate the importance of competing, having fun and conducting an active lifest yle in an environ- ment that is safe and secure," concluded Barbara. Global trade now poised for sustained recovery Emerging from a period of stagna- tion triggered by the global financial crisis, world trade is set to resume its growth trajectory in 2016, pre- senting fresh opportunities for busi- nesses that have positioned them- selves to benefit, a new study from HSBC Commercial Banking shows. Exporters and importers in cycli- cal sectors, such as transport equip- ment and metals, will be the first beneficiaries as the pace of growth in cross-border commerce recovers to 8 per cent in 2016 from just 2.5 per cent last year, according to the HSBC Trade Forecast. Details of the latest HSBC Trade Forecast were given during a busi- ness event held in Malta and which was addressed by Steve Box, Head of Trade and Receivables Finance – Europe, HSBC Bank plc; Michel Cordina, Head of Commercial Banking at HSBC Malta; and James Woodeson, Head of Global Banking and Markets, at HSBC Malta. Chris Cardona, Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business spoke during the event. Looking further out to 2030, the Forecast projects that global mer- chandise trade will more than triple as astute companies capitalise on in- creasing productivity and consumer wealth in the emerging markets. "Businesses can't afford to fixate on the risks posed by today's geo- political problems and uneven rates of growth at the expense of their fu- ture planning," said Simon Cooper, Chief Executive of HSBC Com- mercial Banking. "Conditions have undoubtedly been tough for trade recently, but we are now turning a corner. The medium and long term prospects look significantly better for businesses that have prepared themselves for recovery in both de- veloped and developing markets." Increasingly robust economic con- ditions in the US and the UK, along with a gradual rebound in the Euro- zone, will give many international businesses a platform on which to build during 2015. In the short term emerging markets growth looks more vulnerable – while still rapid in relative terms – reflecting a com- bination of structural challenges and political uncertainties in East- ern Europe and the Middle East. By 2030, however, China is ex- pected to increase its overseas ship- ments five-fold as it strengthens commercial ties to emerging Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. China currently exports 1.4 times more goods than Germany and the US by value, and will widen this gap to almost three times US exports. India, meanwhile, is likely to be the world's fastest-growing exporter from 2014 to 2030, and has the po- tential to move from the 14th larg- est exporter of goods by value to the world's 5th largest. In order to ex- plore this trend in more detail, the Global Connections report places a special focus on India. When concluding the event, Chris Cardona, Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business said: "I am happy to say that Malta has had a good number of encouraging success stories, all of which show the potential for Maltese compa- nies to develop their own products, innovate, and expand abroad. Our smallness rather than being a con- straint has actually enabled us to specialise and cater for emerging economic niches. On its part, gov- ernment will continue to enhance its efforts to make our business environment more conducive to in- vestment and growth." The all-new Ford S-MAX – a styl- ish and innovative reinvention of the trend-setting seven-seat sports activity vehicle – makes its global public debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show as part of a host of new vehicles from Ford in Eu- rope. Along with the S-Max Ford will also unveil the stylish new C-MAX and Grand C MAX multi-activity vehicles, redesigned inside and out with improved fuel efficien- cy, comfort and refinement. The European-spec version of the all- new Ford Mustang also debuts in Paris. The iconic sports car will be sold across Europe for the first time in its 50-year history. Ford's upscale all-new Edge sport utility vehicle makes its European motor show debut, in Paris. The spacious and high-tech Edge will be the f lagship of Ford's growing SUV line-up in Europe when it debuts next year. Also making its motor show de- but in Paris is the new Ford Focus ST. More agile and refined than ever before, the new Focus ST is for the first time offered with a choice of performance petrol or diesel engines. "I can't remember a more excit- ing time for new product in Ford of Europe," said Stephen Odell, Ford executive vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa. "The new S-MAX and C-MAX set a new standard for stylish fam- ily vehicles. We are entering a new era for performance with the new Mustang and Focus ST. And with the new Edge, we will now have our strongest ever SUV line-up for Europe." Who said that property consult- ants are not a good sport? As part of a team-building exercise, members of the Frank Salt Real Estate team took up a challenge that saw them trying their hand at waterpolo – against the Sliema ASC committee members. Fea- turing some of Frank Salt Real Estate's most audacious consultants, the game saw both sides fighting for the ball and goal opportunities head to head, with the Frank Salt Real Estate team falling just short of securing winning the game in the last few minutes of the game. The odds were heavily against the re- al estate specials, yet they showed great enthusiasm and team spirit through- out the whole game. The players knew their limitations but still performed with credit as they gave their most experience players more exposure to top the game favourites, whilst still pushing the more novice players. They provided a consistent effort through- out the game, and their success pushed them towards a good result worthy of Malta's leading estate agency! The game also reflected on Frank Salt Real Estate's bid to play a greater role in sports events in Malta, which this year saw the company taking up main sponsorship of the Sliema ASC Waterpolo club, for the second year. "Sports activity is an extremely im- portant element of any society." Stated Grahame Salt, company director, and also a player of the Frank Salt Real Estate team. "Waterpolo is one of the most followed sports in Malta and this was our way of endorsing the club and giving something back. This year saw Sliema ASC perform very well in the Summer league and recently securing the Winter Championship following a 9-7 defeat of arch rivals Neptunes. This game against the club's com- mittee was definitely good fun and an excellent challenge for all participants and we are already looking forward to the rematch." The Frank Salt Real Estate team line- up included Alan Agius, Ryan Delia, Ludwig Farrugia, Stefan Borg, Leonard Grech, Grahame Salt, Dylan Micallef, Patrick Xuereb and Jonathan Sammut. The game was organised by Frank Salt Real Estate's Marketing Division.
