Events 43 maltatoday, Sunday, 9 november 2014 For the 11th consec- utive year, McDon- ald's has announced McHappy Day, its national charity event to mark World Children's Day. The event seeks to raise funds in aid of L- Istrina, the Boxing Day fundraising marathon held un- der the patronage of the President of Malta and the Malta Community Chest Fund. Details of this year's McHappy Day were revealed at a press confer- ence held at McDonald's Gharghur in the presence of President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca. "A business truly reaches its full economic potential when it takes into account its social responsibil- ity. This is because the economy should be of service to the commu- nity and not the other way round," the President said. Throughout November, custom- ers will be encouraged to 'Share a Smile' on the official McDonald's Facebook page by uploading photos featuring the customised cut-out smiles available from all McDon- ald's restaurants. "McDonald's will donate €1 for every McHappy smile shared on Fa- cebook," announced Kurt Camill- eri, Senior Operations Manager at McDonald's™ Malta. "We fully support L-Istrina, and the sterling work it carries out for children and their families each year. It's truly amazing what a dif- ference a dream can make, and with the help of our community, McDon- ald's Malta looks forward to make a difference and we encourage every- one to join." McHappy Day is McDonald's Mal- ta's largest fundraising event, bring- ing all its restaurants together for a good cause. Last year's campaign raised €33,000 for L-istrina as 500 employees, 68 local personalities and 11,269 people uploaded pho- tos supporting the 'Share a Smile' campaign on Facebook. Over the past 11 years, McHappy Day has raised over €230,000 for charity. In November, customers will also be able to purchase McHappy Day keychains available in four colours for €1 from all McDonald's restaurants. "All proceeds made through the sale of these keychains will also be do- nated to L-Istrina," Camill- eri said. Finally, on November 29, McDonald's Malta will join the global McDonald's McHappy Day celebrations to raise further funds and awareness for children's causes. Special events will be held in McDonald's res- taurants during the day. "We look forward to shar- ing the fun on this special day with our customers," added Mr Camill- eri. "There will be piggy banks in all of our restaurants encouraging cus- tomers to contribute further to this important cause." The term Vintage Selection represents the concept behind this wine, where only the very best par- cels of grapes have been carefully selected to produce this premium wine. The wine is a blend of Caber- net Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes coming from low yielding vineyards in Malta with only a very limited amount of 1795 bottles be- ing released on the market. Each bottle is individually numbered to give further authenticity to the wines' limited availability. This full bodied Vintage Selec- tion wine is characterised by for- est fruit aromas of blackcurrants and blueberries with sweet spicy notes of vanilla and liquorice. On the palate it is well balanced and smooth with plenty of velvety tan- nins ending with a pleasantly long, lingering finish. Ageing for over 12 months in French oak barriques provide the wine with a sustained ageing potential. Since its inception back in 2003 Laurenti has well-established itself among the local premium wines of the Maltese Islands. Maltese consumers had the opportunity to participate in a competition run by The Gen- eral Soft Drinks (GSD) Co. Ltd, who are the local representatives of the popular isotonic sport drink. In order to participate, consumers were requested to fill in a coupon and submit a Powerade label. Three participants were ran- domly selected and answered a simple skill question. The winners were Thurstan Spiteri, Miguel Axisa and Carmen Cuschieri. For the meet and greet in Spain, they joined some 60 other participants from various countries includ- ing the UK, Ireland, Hungry, Greece, Spain, Poland and Austria, where a similar compe- tition was held. The prize included an all-inclusive pack- age of accommodation, flights and a match ticket. The winners attended a match between Barcelona and Granada and the following day was Iniesta time. The winners had T- shirts signed, talked with the great footballer and also got to juggle the ball with him. Later in the afternoon, they had the opportunity to experience the famous Camp Nou. Twelve-year-old Thurstan Spiteri of Zej- tun said: "It was a lifetime experience which, thanks to The General Soft Drinks, I will never forget. It never crossed my mind that I would have the opportunity to actually jug- gle the mythical ball with my idol Iniesta." To round off this memorable stay in style and comfort, the winners had a Barcelona tour by bus where they visited all the beauti- ful city's landmarks and outstanding archi- tecture and lifestyle. Powerade is a brand of The Coca-Cola Company, one of the longest-standing cor- porate partners of FIFA, with a formal as- sociation since 1974 and an official sponsor- ship of FIFA World Cup that began in 1978. Powerade combines carbohydrates, electro- lytes with fluids for energy and hydration. It quenches thirst and replenishes minerals and carbohydrates lost during sports or oth- er intense activities. The image of Iniesta has been featuring on the Powerade passion fruit packaging since the last World Cup when this flavour, which has proved to be very popular locally, was in- troduced to the drink line.
