Events 45 maltatoday, Sunday, 9 november 2014 Tosca offers a genuine take to Italian cuisine Right in the centre of the quaint vil- lage of Mellieha you will find a res- taurant, where two chefs, Jonathan and Jean-Paul have entirely scrapped the idea of recreating mainstream Italian food but are simply taking a more genuine route. Located in Mellieha's main street, from the outside, Tosca, pizza, pasta, grill looks no different than any oth- er restaurant but once inside you are instantly greeted warmly and made to feel 'at home'. The hosts, Jessica and Etienne emit positivity and go to lengths to ensure that you leave To- sca with a wide smile. The name itself suits this outlet nicely; a reference not only to the Ital- ian region of Tuscany renowed for its food product but also an interesting comparison to music. After all, food is like music… an art and a master- piece creation like the famous opera 'Tosca', one of Italy's finest works of art by Giacomo Puccini. The young and talented chefs, man- age to create what to the untrained eye may seem simple dishes, yet the taste buds reveal the intricate, expertly use of ingredients and flavours. When cornered and asked to reveal some of the tricks of the trade, Jonathan in- sists that using fresh ingredients definitely helps. Jean-Paul adds that practice makes perfect and that fre- quent experimenting also helps. Asked what they enjoy most about their jobs, Jean-Paul replies that balanc- ing colours, pres- entation and palate is a challenge he relishes, meanwhile the witfully think- ing Jonathan replies that having satisfied customers is a very fulfilling feeling. Since its opening in 2004, the To- sca has been attracting customers from across the island, from tourists who are visiting our Islands, to locals many of whom have become frequent patrons. During a commemorative 10-Year anniversary party in October 2014, Emanuel Delicata Winemaker certified Tosca with a Standard of Gold Distinction, as a dedicated and loyal purveyor of their wines. Asked for comments, Managing Director, John Grima was quick to reply with a short yet meaningful phrase "we are in the service indus- try, have to listen to the customer and serve what they want, exceeding their expectations in the process" Tosca is open daily from 6pm on- wards while on Sundays it is also open for lunch. Advance bookings are recommended, so call now and reserve your table on 2152 2211 Jonathan and Jean-Paul are also marketing their Festive Season Events on their popular and well kept Facebook page fb.com/toscapizza- pastagrill On Monday 13 October over 200 Vodafone Malta employees partici- pated in a full day of team-building activities at St Joseph's Home in Santa Venera. Following a morn- ing of discussions and briefings, staff spent the afternoon in a team- building activity that required vari- ous teams to build a vehicle from the most basic components. Armed with only cardboard, paint and a set of wheels, each team tried to outdo the other in coming up with the best design and then to present it to the judging panel which then selected the most ingenious and functional design. This was another event in Vodafone's Malta on- going schedule of regular team-building activities. "Vodafone believes that we can only give our best as a company if we enable each and every employee to deliver to the best of their ability" said Claire Mifsud, Human Resources Manager. "This means tak- ing time out at regular in- tervals to keep them fully informed of the company's activities and also to listen to their views on where we are and where we are going. This sort of group activity also reinforces the team dynamic that is a key feature of how we operate at Vodafone Malta." Ta' Marija restaurant in Mosta cel- ebrated their 50th anniversary on Saturday 25th October in a night which sizzled with sweet nostalgia, glorious food, flowing wines, el- egantly dressed clientele and fabu- lous entertainment. The Maltese cuisine restaurant, well known to both locals and foreigners in search for an authentic dining experience, hosted a charity dinner in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund to mark its milestone and to thank its customers for their patronage. Her Excellency, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta, honoured the event with her presence. Greet- ing all the guests personally, her warmth and graciousness perme- ated throughout the restaurant. The Muscat family took guests through a beautiful and eventful 50-year journey of exquisite Mal- tese cuisine, a celebration of Malta's pioneers in the service industry since 1964, a journey which brought with it a colourful plethora of en- tertaining artists, folklore dancers, legendary foreign singers and local- ly-adored musicians who have grace- fully bejewelled Ta' Marija's history. Live entertainment was provided by Ta'Marija's delightful trio playing mandolins and guitars. Followed by the Paul Curmi Folklore Dancers, who performed an especially cho- reographed spectacle which was so vibrant and fascinating, giving our rich history a heartfelt story told in dance. Then, the jewels of the night, treasured local singers, Enzo Guz- man and Tony Camilleri joined the show, who charmed the audience with a dazzling repertoire of their most popular songs, both remi- niscing on times gone by and pok- ing fun at each other, as all guests laughed away at their musings and sang along with wistful emotional fervour. The award-winning restaurant is today the leader in Maltese and Mediterranean cuisine run by Mar- ia Muscat and her son Ben Muscat Jnr, offering sumptuous dishes in welcoming surroundings, comple- mented by exceptional service and a place where you can dine, dance and dazzle all in one place. Once again, Perrier, the legendary natural sparkling mineral water, adopts a bold ar- tistic inventiveness that will impress even the most blasé. With effervescence, crea- tivity and pizzazz Perrier tries its hand at Street Art and the result is as surprising as ever and totally in step with its time. For this new limited edition, Perrier has chosen three of the world's most influen- tial street artists: JonOne, an American though Parisian by adoption, the poetic Japanese artist Sasu and the Brazilian hu- manist Kobra. In all, the three have created nine unique designs to adorn the iconic glass bottles, the plastic PET bottles and the new slim can. From Dali to Colette, Carlu, Villemot, and even Warhol, Perrier has inspired the greatest artists of the last few decades. The 'Perrier inspired by Street Art' Lim- ited Edition is in this tradition, as zany as ever and just as refreshing. This will be the "Street Art" event of the year, in the inimi- table spirit of the brand and decidedly dif- ferent. Street Art was obviously born in the street, and almost instantly drew criticism from the general public. Today, it has come in from the cold to enjoy universal recogni- tion in the art world. Constantly evolving, a part of our lives as an important means of expression, Street Art speaks to us and leaves no one indifferent. Like the mani- festo of a freedom protest or an explosion of uninhibited shapes and colors that tran- scends mere urban façades, Street Art is an ephemeral work in a state of permanent revolution. Mosaics, griffonage, stickers, graffiti, installations, there are no limits to the creativity. JonOne, a New Yorker who lives in Paris since the end of the Eighties, revisits the glass bottle series, while Sasu from Tokyo, Japan adorns the plastic bottles and Kobra, from São Paulo in Brazil, the new slim can. Together, the trio embody the different fac- ets of the brand: sparkle and audacity for JonOne, elegance and sensuality for Sasu, and eccentricity and love of life for Kobra, yet all share a boundless inspiration and creativity.
