NOVEMBER 25 Lunchtime concerts at the Oratory of St Francis Lunchtime concert at the Oratory of St Francis, Republic Street, Valletta at 12:30. Featuring soprano Charlene Portelli and pianist Sofia Narmania. The voice and piano concert will feature Schubert's 'Die Forelle', Grieg's 'The swam', Strauss' 'Morgen' and Puccini's 'Quando m'en vo' and 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from his popular opera 'Gianni Schicchi'. Portelli will also sing Giacomo Donizetti's 'O luce di quest anima' and Giuseppe Verdi's 'Caro nome che il mio cor'. Tickets at €8 can be bought at the door. NOVEMBER 28 Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Series – Concert 2 MPO Principal Conductor Brian Schembri conducts Richard Strauss' second Horn Concerto, featuring Maltese soloist Etienne Cutajar. Closing the evening is Brahm's Symphony No 4, a work which critics and academics consider by far to be a summation of its composer's learning and technique, and a work of art that for all its complexities cuts as close to the heart of the heart as music can. Programme Carl Maria von Weber - Overture from Der Freischutz Richard Strauss - Horn Concerto No 2 in E flat major soloist: Etienne Cutajar Johannes Brahms - Symphony No 4 in E minor Op 98. NOVEMBER 28-DECEMBER 4 A War to End All Wars? Immersive theatrical experience at Fort Madalena in Madliena exploring wartime Europe. This structured walk-through will have us explore the training rooms and parade grounds of the fort, which will in turn serve as 15 platforms for a manifestation of war related songs from a 100 year span, as well as complementing dance, and well known war poetry. Tickets are at €15. Bookings: www.dls- productions.com, 7984 8788. NOVEMBER 29, 30 Aire Flamenco Flamenco performance by Alegria Flamenco at the Salesian Theatre, Don Bosco Street, Sliema. Under the direction of Ingrid Sciberras, the performance will feature flamenco dance with the participation of percussionist Jose Calderon from Seville, Spain, and guest artist Walter Vella on Saxophone. The programme will also include extracts from Bharat Natyam dance choreographed by Mavin Khoo for Alegria dancers. EXHIBITIONS NOVEMBER 17-22 Nostalgia Environmental NGO Flimkien Ghal Ambjent Ahjar's annual art exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute, Valletta. Organised in aid of Malta's heritage, Nostalgia will showcase paintings as well as sculptures by both local and international artists ranging from the 19th century to the present day including Doranne Alden, Wayne Attwood, Joe Bellia, Lucille Cranwell, Giuseppe Cassar, Peter Day, Mary de Piro, Ronald Gordon, Winston Hassall, H.M. Humphreys, Matthew Kassar, G. Karlin, Tonio Mallia, Mark G. Muscat, James Proudfoot, Thomas Rathmell, Renaud, Paul Scerri, Beatriz Solera Caballero, Barrie Temple, James Vella Clark and Anthony Weitz. NOVEMBER 18-22 Artists for Charity Exhibition of paintings at No. 4, The Gardens, Ivo Muscat Azzopardi Street, St Julian's. Featuring works by George Apap, John Borg Manduca, Jeni Caruana, Mary de Piro, Mark Pullicino and Kenneth Zammit Tabona. Proceeds will go towards Dar Tal Kaptan through Rotary Club Malta. Opening hours: 11:00 to 17:00. UNTIL NOVEMBER 29 Shared Roots Photography exhibition by Andrew Rizzo at Villa Bologna, Attard. The photos document the project Hwawar u Fjuri, in which Maltese nationals and migrants shared their experiences by telling their stories on the use of herbs and flowers in their own country and culture of origin. UNTIL NOVEMBER 29 Mario Cassar: Timeless Exhibition of 'found art' sculptures by Gozitan artist Mario Cassar at Vini e Capricci, Xewkija. UNTIL DECEMBER 19 First-time solo exhibition Exhibition at Malta Society of Arts, Palazzo de la Salle, Republic Street, Valletta featuring works by Aaron Bezzina, Gabriel Buttigieg, Kertin Arnemann, Sam Falzon and Samuel Sultana. FESTIVALS UNTIL NOVEMBER 30 European Film Festival 12th edition of the European Film Festival at Dar l-Ewropa, 254, St Paul's Street, Valletta organised by the European Commission Representation in Malta in collaboration with embassies of EU Member States in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Malta's EU Membership. Films are screened without interval and start at 18:30 followed by light refreshments. Entrance is free but donations in aid of Hospice Malta are welcome. Seats on a first come first served basis. NOVEMBER 19-23 German Film Festival Film festival of eight German films held at St James Cavalier, Valletta with a special double-screening of films by Wim Wenders at the German-Maltese Circle, Messina Palace, St Christopher's Street Valletta on November 22 from 17:00. All films will be screened in German with subtitles in English. Tickets are at €3, except for the children's film Sputnik (€2) and the Wim Wenders Classic film night, which is complimentary. COMICS CONVENTION NOVEMBER 29, 30 Malta Comic Con Annual comics convention organised by Wicked Comics at St James Cavalier, Valletta. Visitors will be able to meet distinguished comic book creators from Europe and America, as well as purchase comics from both creators and dealers. The convention will also feature a cosplay and gaming element. The sixth edition of this popular multi- media event will be held at St James Cavalier, Valletta on November 29 (10:00-18:00) and 30 (11:00-19:00). This edition will feature renowned creators Michael Dialynas (The Woods), and Lew Stringer (The Beano) as well as professional Maltese but currently London based creator Daniela 'iella' Attard (The Ugly Duckling) will be joining Yishan Li, Rufus Dayglo, Andrew Wildman, Guillermo Ortego, Steve Scott, Mickey Lam, Mike Collins, Cliodhna, Dave Taylor, Christian Ward, and John-Paul Kamath. DANCE WORKSHOP NOVEMBER 21, 22 Dance Workshop with Francesco Mariottini Dance workshop by acclaimed Italian dancer and actor Francesco Mariottini ('Amici') organised by Naupaca Dance Factory in Gozo. The sessions, which will be divided into separate sessions for adults and children, with a dance fitness for adults session on November 22, will be held at the Aurora Opera House, Victoria.
