The Helen Keller Resource Centre in Qrendi claimed the honour of being the highest contributor, with an average of 7,972 plastic caps per student. This collective effort led to the do- nation of a record €15,000 cheque presented by GreenPak Coop Soci- ety to the President of Malta, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, during l-Istri- na 2014. GreenPak was presented with an official certificate from The Malta Records organisation in recognition of the record number of plastic caps collected in Malta. Originally launched by GreenPak in November 2011, the fourth edition of Irriċkla għall-Istrina campaign saw the participation of primary schools and business organisations. GreenPak's official waste educa- tors, along with GreenPak's mascot, Green Gary, visited various premises to supply recycling bags and explain the benefits of initiative. Ing. Mario Schembri, Green- Pak Coop Society CEO, said, "The overwhelming response is a clear indication that our sustainable re- cycling practices message is being well received not only by the younger generations but also from private or- ganisations. This further encourages us to continue providing recycling opportunities in a responsible man- ner." GreenPak Coop Society is a MEPA authorised scheme and is a founding member of EXPRA, the European organisation promoting producer re- sponsibility schemes internationally. GreenPak is also backed by PROEu- rope, an umbrella organisation of 35 national producer responsibility systems engaged in the selective col- lection and recycling of packaging waste. LIDL trains 60 sales representatives at MISCO "AT Lidl, we have been seeking a more focused but at the same time, holistic approach towards our people's training where we now stress that our employees are not just trained as cashiers or stock managers but more impor- tantly, they have to be trained to handle any query from our cus- tomers as this is what drives cus- tomer satisfaction." This was stated by Dorotea Mader, Head of HR at Lidl Malta Supermarkets, at the end of a training programme hosted by MISCO for a group of about 60 employees from Lidl's Santa Ven- era and Qormi supermarkets. The course, conducted by MIS- CO's specialist people trainers, delved into a number of areas ranging from inter-personal rela- tionships at work and customer satisfaction to handling of cus- tomer queries and dealing with complaints. "At Lidl, customer satisfaction is our main goal and we are con- stantly seeking to improve the experience that our customers get at our outlets. We are interested in what our customers need and we understand that nowadays, they want a quick and efficient service that can only be offered when our employees understand the im- portance of it, something which was widely discussed during this training programme", explained Dorotea Mader. "Currently employing 225 em- ployees across 7 Lidl outlets locat- ed in Santa Venera, Safi, Żejtun, Luqa, San Ġwann, Qormi and Gozo, Lidl is a growing organisa- tion and after a presence of 6 years on the island, we decided to apply a more focused approach to our ongoing employee training by starting from a group of sales as- sistants from two supermarkets. "In fact, we will now dedicate the next two to three months to monitoring our employees and as- sisting them in putting what they learnt into practice. Based on the outcome, we will know how best to proceed with future training programmes for more employees," added Dorotea Mader. Ritienne Xerri, Training Spe- cialist from MISCO conducted the workshops and expressed her satisfaction at how all employees responded positively to this train- ing initiative. "We were delighted with their feedback and we were also very encouraged by their participation and active involvement in all the workshops. I feel that the most important factor that come out of this training was that all employ- ees are seeing their company as an organisation that not only wants to improve its operations but is very interested in helping them become better, more competent, more ef- fective and more satisfied sales as- sistants," said Ritienne Xerri. "We commend Lidl for its com- mitment towards training of its people. When staff training is ongoing, the employees are more motivated, become better at what they do and help their organisa- tion remain competitive in its sec- tor," concluded Ritienne Xerri.
