22 maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 28 JANUARY 2015 Sport MOTORSPORTS FORMULA 1 ASMK Enduro this Sunday at Mgarr ON Sunday 8 February the 'Assoc- jazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi' will continue the ASMK – Pasta Poiatti Enduro 2014-15 Champion- ship. This race will be the third one in the Enduro program and will be held at the Quarry at Torri Falka in Mgarr. Thanks to the Hardrock company Ltd for accepting these ASMK activities ASMK in their property. This Program begins at 10:00 am and is being supported by Dunlop and KTM Malta. Meanwhile on Saturday 31 Janu- ary 2015 ASMK held the Autocross Class A and B Race Finals. In Class A Christian Mark Galea was seen taking the lead on his Fiat Ritmo while he was followed by Philip Gri- ma on Ford Escort and Lucas Pace on Honda Civic. Till the end of the race there were no changes in the positions. Galea registered his third win this season followed by Grima and Pace who finished second and third respectively. Fourth and fifth place was won by Andrew Pisani on his Vauxhall Nova and Vince Farru- gia on his Volkswagen Polo. Pisani and Farrugia progressed a position because Godfrey Gauci on Ford Fi- esta who was occupying fourth po- sition was forced to retire because of a damaged front wheel. In Class B Final race Philip Joe Vella was seen taking the helm of the race followed by Martin God- win on an Opel Corsa battling with Jean Paul Grech on his Peugeot 106. Both Martin and Grech drew the attention of many spectators present while battling during this race final. They were always very close to each other but Grech's at- tacks were unsuccessful as Mar- tin defended his post so well until the end of the race. This race final ended with Vella confortably win- ning this race ahead of Martin and Grech in second and third places while the fourth and fifth place was won by Malcolm Borg on his Opel Corsa and Pedro Attard on his Fiat X19. Meanwhile the ASMK Officers on Thursday 29 January 2015 had a courtesy visit to Her Ecc. the Presi- dent of Malta. Such a visit has now entered in the events calendar of each year where the Association presents the funds collected dur- ing the special activity which was held on 21 December 2014 for the 'Malta Community Chest Fund'. Along this visit the ASMK Offic- ers also discussed the importance of this year 2015 when ASMK will be celebrating the thirtieth anni- versary from when the Association was founded. Also, later on this year ASMK will be hosting the larg- est event since when ASMK will be hosting the FIM-Europe General Conference in Malta. FIM President Vittorio Ippolito and other Officers will also be present in Malta. Also we will be working together with the President of Malta on a particu- lar activity. For more information one can visit the ASMK Official website www.asmk.org.mt ot the social site on Facebook A.S.M.K. Malta ASMK offi cers presented President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca with a donation for the Malta Community Chest Fund Nasr sets pace on penultimate day at Jerez SAUBER rookie Felipe Nasr set the standard on the penultimate day of Formula 1's opening pre- season test at the Circuito de Je- rez, bouncing back from an early spin to record a 1:21.545 on the Soft tyre. The Brazilian had been caught out in the morning as an initially damp circuit dried, losing control of the C34 at Turn 9 and signalling the first of three red f lag periods. But mechanics turned the car around quickly and, with two hours left on the clock, Nasr moved to the fore, a position he held through to the chequered f lag. Kimi Räikkönen finished two tenths adrift on his first day back with Ferrari, completing more than a race distance to build on team-mate Sebastian Vettel's en- couraging start. Mercedes once again led the mileage stakes with Nico Rosberg, despite causing another red f lag when an engine shutdown left the F1 W06 Hybrid stranded at the chicane. Felipe Massa got his first taste of the new Williams after taking over from team-mate Valtteri Bot- tas, setting the team's fastest time of the week (1:22.276) en route to fourth position. Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado spent the majority of Tuesday morning in the pit lane amid te- lemetry problems, but recovered to rack up a healthy number of laps. The Mercedes-powered E23 sparked the day's third and final stoppage when it ground to a halt between Turns 5 and 6 in the final few minutes of action. Carlos Sainz Jr. joined Nasr and Rosberg in passing the 100-lap mark, the Toro Rosso newcomer working through a varied pro- gramme, which included practice starts and pit-stops. Red Bull had been hoping to re- cover lost mileage after Daniil Kv yat's costly mistake on Monday, but a power unit change in the middle of the day heavily restrict- ed Daniel Ricciardo's running. There was also an engine-related setback at McLaren, as the Honda- powered MP4-30 suffered a loss of water pressure, requiring the power unit to be removed for in- spection. The issue, however, came after the team's most productive morn- ing of the test so far, with Fern- ando Alonso completing 32 laps – almost three times its total for the first two days.
