EXHIBITIONS FEBRUARY 12-20 Shared Traces Exhibition displaying the works which reflect, with materials and techniques, the culture and history of the "know-how" of Abruzzo, which parallel Maltese craftsmanship. Held at the Hall of the Italian Cultural Institute, St George's Square, Valletta from February 12 to 20. Organised by the Italian Cultural Institute, the exhibition is coordinated by the Confederazione Nazionale Artigianato e Piccola e Media Impresa – CNA Abbruzzo, under the patronage of the Polo di Innovazione dell'Artigianato Artistico della Regione Abruzzo. It will be inaugurated on February 12 at 18:30. Opening hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10:30 – 13:00 and 15:00 – 16:00, Thursday 10:30 – 13:00 and 15:30 – 18:30, Friday 10:30 – 13:30 until Friday 20 February 2015. FEBRUARY 13-MARCH 15 Afterselfie – beyond masks Collective exhibition at St James Cavalier, Valletta. Featuring works by Raphael Vella, Elisa Von Brockdorff, Adrian Abela, Ritty Tacsum, Goghi&Goghi collective, Gabriele Grones, Jacopo Dimastrogiovanni, Elia Nadie and Debora Fella. The idea behind Afterselfie was conceived at the 2014 edition of the Curatorial School at VIVA (the Valletta International Visual Art Festival), one of the Valletta 2018 Foundation's projects from its diverse Cultural Programme. Afterselfie is, first and foremost, a cultural exchange between Malta and Italy as a number of Maltese and Italian artists will be showcasing their work in both countries. After being displayed at St James Cavalier, the exhibition will then move to Palazzo Trentini in Trento, Italy and will run from May 15 to 31. FEBRUARY 17-27 A Similar New Exhibition by Adrian Abela at Architecture Project, 4, Sappers Street, Valletta. The exhibition presents three light pieces, one object, and two sprayed paintings, reflecting the field of artistic research he has been occupied with for a long time. Opening times: Monday to Thursday – 10:00 to 17:00; Friday – 10:00 to 15:00. UNTIL MARCH 1 A Junction Collective exhibition at Xarolla Windmill, Triq San Andrija, Zurrieq. Featuring works by Sabrina Calleja Jackson, Sarah Mamo, Ryan Falzon, Andrea Zerafa, Sarah Maria Scicluna, Robert Zahra, Gabriel Buttigieg and Fabio D'Amato. THEATRE & DANCE FEBRUARY 19 The Crucible Transmission of the Old Vic, London production of Arthur Miller's modern classic witch- hunting drama, The Crucible, at St James Cavalier, Valletta. Starring Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) and directed by Yaël Farber. The ensemble cast also features Malta- born actress Marama Corlett. DWARNA This week DWARNA will be discussing Valentine's Day & Relationships DWARNA is broadcast tomorrow Thursday at 20:40 on TVM2 Dissident Syrian novelist Khaled Khalifa to read at St James Cavalier This Friday (February 13), the leading Syrian dissident novelist and screenwriter Khaled Khalifa, will read from his novels in the Music Room at St James Cavalier at 19:00. The event, which is open to the general public and free of charge, is being organised by Inizjamed with the support of the St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity. Khaled Khalifa has chosen to remain in Syria despite the war raging in his country and the Malta-based Palestinian poet Walid Nabhan will be reading excerpts translated into Maltese of his Damascus war diary. The author and his work will be introduced in English by his long-time friend, the Syrian academic Ghenwa Mumari, who teaches Arabic literature in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Malta. Albert Gatt will be reading from In Praise of Hatred and Adrian Grima will interview the author in English. Khaled Khalifa will be reading an excerpt from his latest novel in Arabic. Writing in The Guardian, Maya Jaggi has described Khalifa's third novel In Praise of Hatred as a "momentous" novel. It was first published in 2006 and shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2008, by which time, writes Jaggi, it had been banned in Syria and republished in Lebanon.
