Events 26 maltatoday, Sunday, 22 February 2015 This prestigious award was made to the brand on 27 January in Casablanca, during an evening that brought together many inter- ested parties: motor industry pro- fessionals, guests and media from the kingdom of Morocco. The Peugeot 308, which was up against the BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW X4, Hyundai Elantra and Mercedes C Class, won the sup- port of the specialist motoring jury. With voting by the organisation committee (made up of journalists from Autonews - the leading mo- toring magazine in the kingdom - and motor industry and leasing company professionals) on the one hand and the general public (with internet voting) on the other hand, the new Peugeot 308 was unani- mously awarded this national dis- tinction for 2015. Today, with more than 230,000 sales worldwide since its launch in September 2013, the Peugeot 308 continues its success story, with its "Car of the Year 2015" award in Morocco. In a Moroccan private car market of 122,000 vehicles in 2014, Peu- geot was in 5th place with a mar- ket share of 7.2%. Alberta launch their very own training academy Participation in the HSBC Water Programme lands school Green Flag Works to remove debris material from Mosta site were never stopped by MEPA Reflecting its strong commitment to people's development and growth, as well as excellence in its business operations, Alberta has launched a technical Training Academy thus reinforcing the company's commit- ment to the local market, while al- lowing the organization to address the growing and diverse needs of customers in the fire and security market. "Our business heavily relies on the skills of a qualified team and we are therefore actively investing in tech- nical training. It is a priority, and one which we believe is imperative to be in a better position to address today's market needs," Duncan Bar- baro Sant, Director. The training rooms are fully equipped with the necessary tools and equipment that allow for smooth and efficient delivery of technical training and essential troubleshooting techniques. The Malta Environment and Plan- ning Authority (MEPA) can con- firm that works for the removal of large quantities of debris and inert material by the Foundation for To- morrow's Schools, from a site op- posite the new government school at Zokrija in Mosta, were never stopped because planning permis- sion was not required. The removal of the debris is being carried out to reinstate an agricultural field. Works on the boundary wall and the infilling of the gap between the rock face and the wall, including its landscaping, are being allowed to carry on since these works are a continuation of two valid planning permissions, namely PA3743/05 (Construction of school) and per- mission PA3162/09 (To add sports facilities to compliment the new Mosta government school and change in use of existing farmhouse for educational purposes). The Authority only informed the Foundation not to carry out any works on the formation of a con- crete passageway and gate which are still the subject of a new devel- opment application which is in its initial stages of processing. These works require planning permis- sion since the site, on which they are proposed, is located outside the development zone. The Authority can confirm that over the past days the Foundation has not breached the instructions of the MEPA's Enforcement Direc- torate. The Authority will continue mon- itoring the site to ensure compli- ance with its instruction In a first for the HSBC Water Pro- gramme – Catch the Drop campaign, a participating school has been awarded the distinction of a 'Green Flag' by Na- ture Trust Malta. The Green Flag is the highest international distinction a school can receive to mark its commit- ment towards education for sustainable development. San Anton School attained the pres- tigious rank after obtaining funding from the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop campaign to implement an environmental project. The EkoSkola group at San Anton School came up with the idea of reduc- ing plastic waste by replacing disposable water bottles with refillable ones. Besides eliminating a plastic bottle per day per student, the action led to a considerable reduction in the school's carbon footprint as disposable plas- tic bottles use both a lot of energy and water when being manufactured and cause pollution when discarded.
