Thirt y com- petitors registered their partici- pation in this event. Meanwhile, a look at the Auto- cross Modified Class of the day Philip Vella on his Opel Corsa dominated the three heats, won the highest score and secured his place in the Class A Finals. Chris- tian Mark Galea on his Fiat Ritmo together with Josef Abela on his Opel Nova, Matthew Borg on a Vauxhall Nova, Noel Vella on a Ford Escort Mk1 and Malcolm Borg on Opel Corsa also quali- fied for the Class A – 9 Laps final race. Right from the 6 car Start line of this final we saw Philip Vella and Galea reaching the first cor- ner on track. They were followed close by Noel Vella and Borg brothers Malcolm and Matthew. Galea took the lead and was seen advancing ahead of the rest on each while Philip Joe and Noel Vella were in combat ahead of Abela and Borg brothers. Here the spectators followed ex- citing racing on the loose surface ground until Noel Vella played an unsport y move on Philip Joe which action left no choice to the referee but to take action against Vella. At some point later during the 6th Lap Vella who was in 3rd place succumbed to the pressure from brothers Matthew and Mal- colm Borg but it did not take long for Malcolm to reduce his speed due to a mechanical fault in his car. This interesting race was won by Galea ahead of Philip Joe Vella and Matthew Borg. Abela and Noel Vella finished in 4th and 5th places respectively. The Class B Final Start Line was composed of Gordon Johnson on his Peugeot 205, JeanPaul Grech on his Peugeot 106, Godfrey Gau- ci on his Ford Fiesta, the Opel Corsa of Martin Godwin, Noel Zammit on his Fiat Punto and the Opel Corsa of Jonathan Camilleri. Right from the Start of this final we saw Martin and Johnson mak- ing an excellent sprint to the first corner but Martin who was on the better side of the track took the helm of this final followed by Johnson. These were followed by Gauci and Grech respectively and Camilleri c and Zammit follow- ing too. During this final every driver properly defended his place while the two leaders Martin and Johnson battled for the lead. On the sixth Lap Camilleri lost con- trol of his car which forced him to retire from the race as a safet y precaution. The final result of this spotless race declared Mar- tin registering his fourth win in this Class B. He was followed by Johnson and Gauci. Fourth and fifth places were won by Grech and Zammit. The newer Class for Autocross Standard Cars had different win- ners during the first two heats be- tween the 4 cars in the race.
