Citroen - C4 Cactus - 18x5.indd 1 22/10/2014 14:04 Bulletproof car hopes to blast through records and sound barrier at 1,000mph A British car hopes to break the landspeed record by shoot- ing through the desert at over 1,000mph — and it's body has to be made bulletproof to withstand the huge impacts it will undergo as it races along. The Bloodhound SSC car, which has been assembled just outside of Bristol, is counting down to its final test, but first it must ensure that the car can withstand its journey. As it hur- tles through the desert, it will be going at such speeds that even a small pebble could cause huge damage. If a bag of sugar hit the centre of the wheel while the car was travelling at full speed, for in- stance, it would be the equiva- lent of 50 tonnes of blast, the weight of a fully loaded lorry. To ensure that it can withstand such hits, the team behind the project have fired projectiles at the panels on the car. By ensur- ing that the panels are essen- tially bullet-proof, they can make sure that they are pebble-proof, too — and at such speeds, they are much the same thing. The panels will protect the car's driver, Andy Green, as he drives the car through the desert where the car will be tested. The team behind the car hope that it will be able to beat the 763mph record, which was set by Thrust SSC in 1997. When it did so, it became the first car to break the sound barrier. DS World Paris: Swarovski side by side with Divine DS On 21 March 2015, the DS WORLD PARIS will be welcoming Swarovski side by side with the Divine DS, a con- cept car studded with the company's famous crystals. The new residency will also feature jewellery by Nath- alie Colin, artistic director of the Swarovski brand, and the latest DS creations unveiled a few days ago at the Geneva Motor Show including the 2015 Model DS 21 Pallas. The exhibi- tion will be showing through 10 May. After hosting the Harcourt studio several months ago, the DS WORLD PARIS is moving into the world of fashion by welcoming Swarovski. With the new residency, visitors will be able to get a close-up look at the Divine DS concept car, a model subli- mated by Swarovski's world-renowned crystals. Swarovski's Spring-Summer 2015 jewellery collection will also be on show. And when the Geneva Motor Show closes its doors, the DS World Paris will be organising an exclusive exhibition of the DS brand's latest creations. Divine DS, a high-tech concept car radiant with light Unveiled at the 2014 Paris Mo- tor Show, Divine DS concept car is a concentrate of the Brand's DNA and future. A styling manifesto designed and created in Paris, it combines re- finement and technology, standing apart with its compact, powerful and elegant four-door body underscored by strong graphic signatures. The all- new interior features bold shapes and styling. A resolutely technological object, Divine DS is equipped with laser headlights, facets on the rear window that open up to improve aerodynam- ics, an onboard camera for enhanced rear visibility and a cockpit with an array of digital features. Divine DS also introduces the "Hypertypage" concept reflected in the creation of three interchangeable interior design schemes, each with its own singular personality: "Parisi- enne Chic", "Mâle" and "Fatale Punk". "Parisienne Chic" is an invitation to a world of Parisian sophistication and elegance with materials inspired by the world of haute couture, while "Fa- tale Punk" is a more alternative design approach, at once darker and more glamorous. The cabin is dominated by quilted black leather studded with crystals. All these interiors are on show at the DS Paris. The creations of Nathalie Colin: A Spring-Summer 2015 collection in tune with the times The new residency will also include an exhibition of Swarovski's Spring- Summer 2015 jewellery collection in- spired by a dreamlike garden. "Nature has always held special importance for Swarovksi," says artistic director Nathalie Colin. "The Crystal Garden collection reaffirms our thirst for mo- dernity, expressed in the stylised fau- na, flora and insects and their flowing and feminine lines and patterns." The collection is fully in tune with the times, distinguished by the glam- orous and sparkling touches for which the Swarovski company is known. A DKNY dress will be on show along- side this collection, created as part of the Little Black Dress charity auction to raise money for the fight against cancer organised in New York. The unique dress was created by Donna Karan, with 20 designers called on to stitch the 2,600 Swarovski crystals. The consummately elegant creation will be on exclusive show for all fashionistas to admire in the win- dow displays of the DS World Paris throughout the residency.
