22 maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 20 MAY 2015 Sport SAILING WEIGHTLIFTING Sette Giugno cruise to Pozzallo features a cadet attraction THE Sette Giugno Cruise to Pozzallo organized by the Mal- ta Cruising Club (MCC) is this year on its third edition and ex- pected to see a bigger cruising f leet than the seventeen boats on last year's event. On this cruise non-members are wel- come to join MCC members on what is regarded as an enjoyable all-family event. The Pozzallo section of Lega Navale are once again extend- ing their enthusiastic collabo- ration to the "3^ Veleggiata dei Cavalieri 2015", as the Event, being held under the Patronage of the Commune of Pozzallo, is referred to on the finish side of the 93Km Cruise. The successful start procedure followed in the past editions is again being adopted whereby each boat leaves Malta at its cruising speed. This means that if a boat cruises at six and a half knots, it will leave at 6:30 am, a boat that cruises at 7 knots leaves at 7:00am and so forth. Such a procedure should have participating boats within sight of each other for most of the trip where all boats should arrive at Pozzallo between two and three in the afternoon or thereabouts. This year the Sette Giugno Cruise starts on Friday 5th where on the first night in Poz- zallo a Fish Night Dinner for all is planned. On Saturday morn- ing the Maltese yachts will be joined by other boats from the Lega Navale Sezione di Pozza- llo for a 'Sail along the Pozzallo coast'. Students Join The Crews Novelty This year's 'Sail along the Poz- zallo coast' will feature a stirring novelty - each boat will host two young school children who most probably will be enjoying their first taste of sailing. The 'cadets', aged between 10 and 12 years, all wearing caps and t-shirts of the Lega Navale Italiana, attend the General Institute of Educa- tion Antonio Amore of Pozza- llo. Such initiative will not only prove exciting to the new young sailors but also to members of their families and friends who will be following this sail from the shore. Following the morning cruise the Maltese sailing community will visit the noted Planeta di Buonivini winery in Noto for a Wine Tasting presentation over a selection of Sicilian delicacies. On Sunday 7th June morning Mass will be held at the Club- house of the Lega Navale Sezi- one di Pozzallo on the marina where the MCC yachts will be berthed. Yachts in the 'Sette Giugno Cruise to Pozzallo' in which the prize-winner gets an enjoyable all-family relaxing sailing weekend Malta Weightlifting Association organises another successful event THE Malta Weightlifting Asso- ciation successfully organised the Malta Open Champion- ship. A good number of athletes participated in this important yearly event. The competition was opened by the cadets, who although still very young, showed perfect ability to perform technique.
