EXHIBITIONS UNTIL MAY 31 Beyond love: desolation and devotion Collective exhibition at St James Cavalier, Valletta organised by Platinum Love. Curated by Fabrizio Fleri Soler, with art direction by Matthew Attard Navarro. Ranging from friendship to kinship and religion to erotica, images of love and human intimacy will be balanced by others echoing emptiness, grief and self-reflection. Featuring work by Antony Bou, Alessandro Furchino, Andy Massaccesi, Alexandra Pace, Alba Yruela, Clement Louis, Eric Lawton, Jon Banthorpe, Justin Leveritt, Julian Vassallo, Luca Grottoli, Lia Sáile, Magnus Åström, Matt Lambert, Quentin De Briey, Oliver Clément, Rebekah Campbell, Stephanie Sant, Tim Barber and Winter Vandenbrink. UNTIL MAY 30 Urbex: A Photo Exhibition Exhibition of photographs by Simon Vienne at Splendid, Strait Street, Valletta. Opening on May 14 from 19:30. Open from Thursday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:30. UNTIL JUNE 15 Frammenti/Fragments Collective exhibition at St James Cavalier, Valletta by Brendan Buttigieg, Julia Grech and Matthew Schembri, three art undergraduate students in their final year at the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. The chosen theme – Frammenti / Fragments – reflects the differences between the artists themselves and their artistic work. If we observe ourselves and our surroundings, we soon realise that everything could be interpreted as made of many fragments which are combined together. UNTIL AUGUST 15 Obsidio Melitae Exhibition of historical documents pertaining to the Great Siege of Malta at the National Library, Valletta. The main focus of the display will be the original prints by Matteo Perez d'Aleccio depicting the highlights of the siege. Other interesting documents include original letters of congratulation from European sovereigns sent to Grand Master Jean de Valette after the lifting of the siege. On view are also published contemporary accounts of the siege, including the 1567 and 1568 editions of Francesco Balbi da Correggio's day-to-day diary. Modern scholarly studies of the 1565 event will also feature in WHAT'S ON WHAT'S ON TODAY WorldFest 2015 Open-air, all day festival at the Upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta from 10:00 to 21:00. Featuring food, music and clothes and item swapping. Participating NGOs include: Core Green, Greenhouse- Malta, KOPIN, Moviment Graffitti, Alternattiva Demokratika and Friends of the Earth. The musical line-up includes: Jazz by Effie, Yuri and Sonja; Wisdom Friday; Mistura and Zsixteen. There will also be ethnic food and Palestinian dance as well as belly dancing and Jazz playing.
