maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 27 MAY 2015 20 JOHN Terry has opened up the prospect of a move to Major League Soccer, although the Chelsea captain wishes to finish his career at Stamford Bridge. The 34-year-old this season won his fourth Premier League title, playing every minute of the 38 games for Jose Mourinho's side. His friend and former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard now moves to MLS with New York City, while Liverpool's Steven Gerrard is joining Los Angeles Galaxy, and Terry has not alto- gether ruled out a trans-Atlantic switch to the United States. "I would love to finish my ca- reer at Chelsea and maybe there is a time when I look to go to play in America or whatever might be best for my family at the time," Terry told TalkSPORT. "Hopefully I have a couple of years left at least. I always thought I could get to age of 35 and still (be) playing and I am getting close to that now." This season saw the first tro- phies of Mourinho's second spell won, with the Blues also winning the Capital One Cup. The Portuguese won two league titles in his first spell, from June 2004 to September 2007, with the core of the team staying to- gether for the best part of a dec- ade and also winning the 2012 Champions League. Terry believes the current squad, and the youth players coming through the Chelsea ranks, is capable of surpassing those achievements. He added: "Looking at this squad now, I think this squad has the potential to do a lot more than we did in the past, well be- yond my playing days." One of the key players is Player of the Year Eden Hazard, who has signed a contract extension until 2020 and is valued at £200 million by Mourinho. The Portuguese's valuation came after comments from Zin- edine Zidane which led to sug- gestions of an approach from Real Madrid, but Hazard has no desire to leave and wants to win the European Cup for Chelsea. "If you're happy and things are going really well at one place, there is no need to change," Haz- ard said in the London Evening Standard. "Obviously, these things don't just depend on me but when- ever you're enjoying your foot- ball and having the chance to win trophies, it would be silly to change. "The Champions League is the one thing missing from my ca- reer. "The top, top players have all won it. So if I want to be con- sidered in that upper, upper level of top players I need to win the Champions League at some point. "It is something as a club I think we can do and we have to always dream of. "I have imagined that feeling of what it would be like to lift the trophy. Let's hope we get a chance to do it." Sport SPORTTODAY FOOTBALL Prince Ali reports 'criminal approach' offering 47 Fifa votes and information FIFA presidential candidate Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein's election team said yesterday they had informed police after being approached by an individual who said he could deliver 47 votes at Friday's election THE approach was made in April and the individual also offered to provide "what appeared to be illegally obtained" information relating to the financial activities of FIFA president Sepp Blatter, his campaign added. The individual was not identi- fied, although the campaign said he was a third party, who was not part of FIFA nor connected to any national football association. The matter was referred to Quest, a UK-based corporate in- telligence firm, who were asked to contact the police and the of- fer was rejected. FIFA's ethics committee, however, was not in- formed. "Our goal was not to create a campaign issue but to properly react to an approach made to us that appeared to involve criminal activity," Prince Ali's campaign said in a statement sent to Reu- ters. "The campaign did not want to do anything that could jeopard- ise the police investigation "Because the claims made by the individual strongly suggested criminal acts, Quest referred the matter to the proper law enforce- ment authorities. "We did not engage the FIFA Ethics Committee because the individuals concerned were third parties who were not part of FIFA, nor were they National As- sociation representatives." Quest, headed by former Lon- don police commissioner John Stevens said in a previous state- ment that Prince Ali had engaged them in January to ensure "the highest levels of integrity and ethical standards throughout his campaign for the presidency of FIFA. "The individual's claims to have obtained information illegally are now under police investiga- tion," Quest said. "Prince Ali's campaign has not received any offers involving questionable behaviour or poten- tial illegalities from FIFA mem- ber associations or individuals claiming to act on their behalf." Prince Ali is the only chal- lenger to incumbent Blatter in Friday's election after Dutch FA president Michael van Praag and former Portugal forwards Luis Figo withdrew last week. Blatter is runaway favourite to secure a fifth mandate. Each of FIFA's 209 member as- sociations holds one vote at the election.
