maltatoday, SUNDAY, 31 MAY 2015 This Week 39 Valletta 2018 unveils first cultural hotspot mobile unit THE Valletta 2018 Foundation unveiled the first cultural hotspot mobile unit, at Pjazza San Ġorġ, Valletta, earlier this week. Valletta 2018 Foundation Chair- man Jason Micallef said "By means of the cultural hotspot mobile unit, Valletta 2018 is making culture more accessible to all. A project of the sort is only possible thanks to the support from the private sec- tor. Dhalia Real Estate contributed the mobile unit to be used for cul- tural events." Micallef highlighted that the Val- letta 2018 Cultural Programme is growing rapidly and being strengthened year on year. The cultural hotspot mobile unit cre- ates a two-fold opportunity: to better inform the public about the Valletta 2018 cultural programme and upcoming activities as part of the national cultural calendar; while at the same time the public has a direct link with the Founda- tion. The mobile unit will remain in Pjazza San Ġorġ for the duration of the Valletta Green Festival, ending today (May 31). From time to time, the cultural hotspot mobile unit will be touring different towns and villages in Malta and Gozo and will be present during events organised by local councils and celebrated by communities. Also addressing the press confer- ence, Arts Council Malta Chair- man Albert Marshall said: "The concept of mobility is essential for culture to be accessible to all, hence the need to share infor- mation about cultural projects launched by cultural entities and addressed to the community. The cultural hotspot project is an ideal platform for this to take place". Dhalia Chairman Chris Grech said: "In the last couple of years we have witnessed an incredible revival of the city of Valletta, with an increase in demand for both commercial and residential invest- ments. These changes have pro- moted us to seek strategic partners in Valletta, with strong presence, and we were fortunate enough to strike a collaboration agreement with Valletta 2018, superbly led by Jason Micallef with passion and determination to transform Val- letta into a social and cultural hub 24/7". Based on Giacomo Puccini's world famous opera, the production will be showing exclusively at the Eden Cinemas on June 10 at 20:15. First staged in 1974 and known to be one of The Royal Opera's best-loved operas; the production will be performed for the very last time this June. John Copley's keen stagecraft and loving attention to period and dramatic detail make this production a masterpiece of realism, while Julia Trevelyan Oman's designs evoke the at- mosphere of 19th century Paris. Israeli conductor Dan Ettinger conducts one of Puccini's most emotional and melodious scores, in a revival that promises to go down in Royal Opera history. La Bohème will be showing in Cin- ema 11, as well as Cinema 16. Tickets for La Bohème are priced at €23 per adult and €10 for children aged 16 and under.
