Events 47 maltatoday, Sunday, 31 May 2015 In its efforts to assist local phil- anthropic causes, Frank Salt Real Estate has donated a €5,000 to the Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS), dedicated to prevent- ing loss of life at sea by provid- ing assistance to migrants who find themselves in distress while crossing the Mediterranean Sea in unsafe vessels. Douglas Salt, who presented the donation on behalf of Frank Salt Real Estate, said "Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, we are delighted to support the important work of MOAS. As a company, we are proud to sup- port the efforts of this very worthy organisation, and we're grateful for the work they do year-round to help the less fortunate. Based in Malta, MOAS is a reg- istered foundation. It is dedicated to preventing loss of life at sea by providing assistance to migrants who find themselves in distress while crossing the Mediterrane- an Sea in unsafe vessels. Equipped with the 40-metre (130 ft) expedition vessel, the Phoenix, two Remote Piloted Aircraft, two RHIBs (rigid-hulled inf latable boats), and a highly experienced team of rescuers, MOAS is able to locate, moni- tor, and assist vessels in distress under the direction of the Rescue Co-ordination Centres. Once on board beneficiaries are provid- ed by post rescue assistance by Medicines Sans Frontiers present on the Phoenix with their doctors and paramedics amongst other. The project – financed by private individuals who believe strongly in mitigating disasters at sea – is led by Martin Xuereb, Malta's former Chief of Defence, with a distin- guished Board of Advisers. Regina Catrambone, founder of MOAS, thanked Douglas Salt and appealed to other private compa- nies and individuals to follow in the steps of Frank Salt Real Estate and make more resources available to MOAS. For more information about MOAS and the work the foundation carries out, visit www.moas.eu. Thanks to a grant by the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop, the school is now able to use an existing collection area for rainwater and a natural embank- ment in its garden to harness rainwater and use it for cleaning, and irrigation purposes. Using a series of urns, the micro water treatment system has extremely low running costs, operating predominantly by gravity. The project opening was led by Minister for Education and Employment Hon. Evarist Bar- tolo and HSBC Bank Malta CEO Mark Watkinson in the company of officials from Kalkara Primary and the Ministry for Energy and Health. HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop is the largest ever campaign of its kind in Malta and aims to forge a blueprint for progress on sustainability of water as a resource. The Kalka- ra project was one of 21 school projects that won funding from the campaign for scholastic year 2013-14. Relax and unwind after a hard week at work with Hilton Malta's Aperitivo Friday. The Quarterdeck bar and terrace will be open from 5pm to 8pm every Friday from May through to June for aperitivo drinks and light bites. June 5th is World Environment Day, and Citadel Insurance is celebrating with the launch of a new insurance product: a PV Panels Policy. This allows you to insure your investment in green technology, protecting your pho- tovoltaic panels from unforeseen damages. "This is another example of our commitment to the environment and an extension of our strategy of promoting environmentally friendly technology to our cus- tomers," Angela Tabone, manag- ing director of Citadel Insurance, said. As in previous years, Citadel is also inviting its clients to join in and celebrate World Environment Day. All customers that renew a policy, or purchase a new one, on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of June will be given a free plant. In addition, on the 5th of June, Citadel Insur- ance will also sponsor 50% of the cost of electric cab rides in Val- letta. "By sponsoring an electric cab in Valletta we aim to provide awareness to encourage greener transport. These electric cabs of- fer silent, emission free transport around the city and are perfect for getting around a World Her- itage Site." Ms Tabone said. Furthermore, those that pur- chase an 'eco home' or an 'eco motor' insurance policy could win a MacBook Air, or a Sony TV (terms and conditions apply). Ms Tabone also stressed the importance of raising awareness on environmental policies and through these initiatives Cita- del's team aims to encourage the general public to bear in mind the ways in which they can con- tribute to a better environment. Environmental resources are limited and are quite sensitive to everything that we do. We are starting to experience the effects of the actions of generations that came before us and it is now our responsibility to preserve our natural resources. Opting for alternative energy technologies and recycling practices are a few of the choices we can make to in- vest in a sustainable future. One of Citadel's main commit- ments in its Corporate and So- cial Responsibility strategy is to safeguard the environment and encourage the general public to follow suit. It continues to sup- port World Environment Day year after year. You can find more information on Citadel's eco insurance poli- cies at www.citadelplc.com, or by visiting any of their branches in Malta and Gozo. Regulated by the MFSA, Citadel Insurance offers a full range of insurance products, including car, travel, home, marine, business, and life.
