Events 49 maltatoday, Sunday, 31 May 2015 Kinnie, Malta's own favourite soft drink with the unique taste that is the hallmark of summer, has a truly distinctive character. Communication campaigns for the popular brand are very much in keeping with this bubbly, al- most quirky, personality and this year's brash campaign is taking a bold step into new, innovative ter- ritory that is bound to get it no- ticed. The new campaign focuses on a fun-filled, colourful and ac- tion packed 'Kinnie world' which showcases the full range of Kinnie variants, encouraging consumers to find the right Kinnie for them and to 'Taste Your World'. The video for this campaign was filmed using a customised, seven camera rig, which covers a full field of view that also includes above and below, thus going way beyond the traditional 360 degree views. Post-production was particular- ly complex requiring synchroni- zation of images from each of the seven different cameras that had to be 'stitched' together to make the final cut. "Farsons embraces an innova- tion-led culture and this is also true also at brand level, more so with our flagship brand Kinnie," said Susan Weenink, Head of Marketing and Communications for Simonds Farsons Cisk plc. "Therefore, it makes perfect sense for us to seek that innova- tion even in our communication strategies." Grillfest, Europe's larg- est outdoor festival of its kind, will attract nearly 50,000 visitors to this food culture event with scores of local and international teams competing for the top culi- nary titles in the fields of grilling and barbecuing. Grillfest is a traditional food festival where organisations, food producers and importers are interacting in a casual setting spread over 27,000 sq. metres of meadowland. Food exhibitions, workshops and culinary train- ing sessions will be held by art- ists from Estonia and overseas. The main goal of the organisers is to turn this food culture festi- val into a unique event with the attendance of tens of thousands of food enthusiasts enjoying this memorable experience combined with tasty food created by people from different backgrounds and cultures. James Muscat, MBGA President, together with committee mem- bers Andres Toompere and An- drew Treglown, will be represent- ing Malta in various competition categories of this food festival; namely the pork, chicken, rabbit and also a fantasy creation. This will be the first time that a local BBQ team will be competing at an international level. The team, co- sponsored by the Malta Tourism Authority, will also be offering lo- cal beer, wine and other delicacies during this event with the scope of promoting Maltese cuisine and traditions. The Malta BBQ & Grilling As- sociation was founded in 2013 and the main objectives are to raise awareness about healthy cooking styles and to teach barbecue and grilling as a form of culinary art and recreation. MBGA has re- cently organised a series of edu- cational seminars with the aim of enticing more people to enjoy the true pleasures of outdoor eating. A number of other educational and social activities are planned for this year. Membership to MBGA is free and applications are available on- line through the association's Fa- cebook page www.facebook.com/ MaltaBBQ French DJ and record producer Bob Sinclar wearing Diesel #Den- imeye sunglasses during a photo- shoot for the inauguration of the Diesel Beach Club, Ibiza. Even though Simon is only 23, his love for running started at the tender age of 4, participating in a toddler race in the Joe Bajada Memorial, organised in Kalkara back in 1996. Great talent is only possible with great dedication that was instilled by his father, Manuel, a runner himself, who encouraged Simon to take up running at this age, taking him out to run out to run around the block occasionally. Showing, more and more interest in running, his parents decided to put him under the watchful eyes of Coach Rose Tabone. Growing up Simon tried all events from track and field to road running, and cross-country races, when at 15 years of age he decided to concentrate on the middle dis- tance races, joining Coach Xan- dru Grech, In that year, Simon was also crowned Youth National Champion in the 1500m clocking a personal best of 4'33. Amongst his achievements, Si- mon won various category Na- tional Championships, partici- pated in the Fisec Games in 2008 and 2009 held in Malta and Portu- gal respectively, winning a bronze medal in the 3000m in front of the home crowd in 2008. Simon also represented Malta in the last two editions of the European Team Championships held in Slovakia and Georgia respectively. He re- cently clocked a personal time in his favourite race of the 1500 me- tres in a time of 4.02. President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca endorses Fundacion Mapfre's initiatives NM Arrigo endorses young runner Malta BBQ Team to participate in Grillfest, Estonia outdoor festival Innovative video marks start of Kinnie's Taste Your World campaign President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca hosted a performance of 'Street Smart' for 75 children from St Ignatius School at San Anton Gardens. The performance is an initiative of Fundacion MAPFRE to promote road safety to school children through the successful 'Street Smart Campaign' which was launched last year to pupils aged 11 to 13 years and this year reached more than 4,000 stu- dents, this time in Form 3 and 4 from a number of schools across Malta and Gozo. Through this campaign Road safety education is delivered to students in a fun way through a series of comical sketches, all thematically related to road safety by animation group, Gen- eration Green, who have become renowned for their campaigns which also include the Healthy Living campaign Caqlaq. The sketches are centred on safety whilst driving cars and motorised bikes. The scripts get students to learn and understand the impor- tance of crucial road signs, and wearing of proper safety cloth- ing, amongst other things. The sketches include a lot of audience participation, who are asked to point out road safety mistakes. Students are also given a reading book related to roadside educa- tion. Martin Galea, Chairman of Mapfre Middlesea said: "Road Safety is an important concern for Mapfre Middlesea . We want people to be safe whilst on the road. Educating young people on the rules of road safety has to be something continuous as this is the only way to avoid fatalities." President Coleiro Preca said: "We believe that educating the younger generation (and tomor- row's drivers) and making them aware of their responsibilities to others whilst on the road will also enable us to spread the message to the entire family." She thanked Mr Fernando Camarero Rodrigu- ez , who was representing Fun- dacion Mapfre during this event, for this initiative and for the fact that youths are taught in an inter- active and fun learning environ- ment, something which they will surely remember. President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca recently also visited one of the performances of the Healthy Living Campaign "Caqlaq" which was held at the Siggiewi Primary School. She was accompanied by Alfredo Munoz, President and CEO of Mapfre Middlesea, the co- ordinators of this campaign, also sponsored by Fundacion Mapfre. The aim of this campaign is to highlight the importance of hav- ing a healthy lifestyle by following a balanced diet and doing physical activity by making children aware of the risks of not taking care of their body. The Institute of Prevention, Health and Environment within Fundacion MAPFRE embarked on this nationwide campaign two years ago and more than 11,000 children have already attended one of the fun workshops organ- ised in schools. President Coleiro Preca ex- pressed her gratitude towards Fundacion MAPFRE for support- ing these initiatives and said she looks forward to developing it further in the future.
