The Central Bank of Malta and the Malta Community Chest Fund, have collaborated in the launch of a social responsibility coin programme involving students in all secondary schools, with the theme: 'Mit-tfal b'Solidarjetà'. The programme was officially launched on Friday, 5 June 2015 by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Professor Josef Bonnici, during a press con- ference held at the Central Bank of Malta. The programme, planned over a number of years, involves five themes: Love, Peace, Nature/En- vironment, Heritage and Games. The theme selected for 2016 is 'Love'. This falls within the Mis- sion Statement of the Malta Com- munity Chest Fund as through love and generosity the Fund pro- motes activities to help individu- als with various needs. The Love theme will be repre- sented on a €2 commemorative coin to be issued by the Central Bank of Malta through coin cards and commemorative coin rolls and will be available for sale in 2016. The proceeds from the sale of the coin cards will go to the Malta Community Chest Fund, which has so many demands on it. The coin design will symbolise Love in the wider sense to reflect the important aspect of solidarity. A competition on the coin design will be launched in all second- ary schools and an expert panel will shortlist five designs, which will then be submitted for voting by the students. The winning de- sign will be reflected on the coin and a prize will be awarded to the student submitting it. The two runners-up will also be awarded a prize while all students partici- pating in the design competition will be given a certificate and me- mento. The remaining four themes will also be reproduced on com- memorative coins over the com- ing years. The schools will inform the stu- dents on the regulations guiding the design competition. Designs must be submitted by not later than Friday, 30 October 2015 at 14:00. HSBC Bank Malta is organising monthly talks for employees on self-care and personal development throughout 2015. Children's coin initiative - 'Mit-Tfal B'solidarjetà' emCare supports Id-Dar tal-Providenza with care solutions Staff maximise true abilities at monthly HSBC self-care sessions emCare has provided Id-Dar tal-Providenza with care solu- tions for one of its community homes in Qawra, Akkwarell. Similar to the rest of emCare's multifarious health and care solutions, the devices are aimed at putting the residents' minds at rest, accident prevention, as well as maintaining their inde- pendence within the home. Akkwarell hosts three per- sons with physical disabilities who live there with the neces- sary support, which has now been extended to include the emCare Hub and SOS buttons for the residents. Thanks to these devices, the residents of Akkwarell can now call for im- mediate help by simply pressing one button. The SOS devices can be worn on the wrist or as a pendant, making them easily accessible in case of emergen- cies. Christine Borg, one of the res- idents of Akkwarell, explained how the SOS button recently helped save her life, when she pressed it to call over the carer at the community home, before losing consciousness. The resi- dent was immediately taken to the hospital where she was given the appropriate medical care. Speaking about the com- pany's support towards Id-Dar tal-Providenza which is cel- ebrating its 50th anniversary, Roland Cachia, General Man- ager at emCare, said, "We are delighted to be commemorat- ing Id-Dar tal-Providenza's an- niversary by giving our support through our care solutions. "Id-Dar tal-Providenza has been doing an excellent job at helping the Maltese communi- ty and we share its vision to help people feel in charge of their own lives. Our efforts, dedica- tion and beliefs are focused to- wards the improvement of peo- ple's lives by ensuring that their independence is safeguarded, while still being able to feel that they are not alone in a way that respects their dignity." "Moreover, our services are beneficial not only to people who require additional care, but to all individuals as we are all in some way or another vul- nerable in our daily lives. em- Care not only offers immediate aid but also helps put individu- als' minds at ease by letting them know that they are never alone," Roland Cachia added.
