Themes may change from one week to the other Kvitova dumped out by Jankovic Latest news from today's ladies' singles action at Wimbledon, including a shock defeat for defending champion Petra Kvitova DEFENDING champion Petra Kvitova crashed out of Wim- bledon in a stunning upset on Saturday as Jelena Jankovic won their Centre Court duel. It seemed that second seed Kvitova was in complete con- trol when she led by a set and 3-1, but Serbian Jankovic turned the match on its head to reach the fourth round. Jankovic, a former world number one but seeded 28th this year, won 3-6 7-5 6-4 and will tackle Agnieszka Radwan- ska next. In a smaller upset, former semi-finalist Angelique Kerber was dismissed in three sets by dangerous Spanish player Gar- bine Muguruza. Muguruza is no stranger to causing a grand slam shock, having claimed the biggest scalp of them all in beating Serena Williams at the French Open last year. But she had no Wimbledon track record to speak of, mak- ing a 7-6 (14/12) 1-6 6-2 victory over German 10th seed Kerber particularly impressive. Kerber was left to rue missing a host of set points in the open- er before losing in the decider. Muguruza, whose only Wim- bledon win in two previous vis- its came against Britain's Anne Keothavong in 2013, has Caro- line Wozniacki in her sights af- ter the Dane breezed through to the last 16. Their clash on Monday was confirmed by Wozniacki 's 6-2 6-2 victory against Italian Camila Giorgi on Court One. Wozniacki, the former world number one, has never been be- yond the fourth round at Wim- bledon, and will be aiming to avoid a fifth defeat at that stage when she tackles Muguruza. Wozniacki has been a runner- up twice at the US Open and is puzzled by her Wimbledon record. "There's no reason why I shouldn't have been able to make it past the fourth round," the fifth seed said. "I've had some tough fourth rounds here. I've won East- bourne. I've won the juniors here. I feel very comfortable on the grass and I love playing here. "So I'm back in the second week, which is nice, and I'm go- ing to try to do my best in the next round." Wozniacki is a close friend of world number one Serena Wil- liams, who tackles sister Venus in the fourth round on Mon- day. "I don't know how it is play- ing a sister, since I don't have one," Wozniacki said. "It must be tough for them. At the same time one of them is going to get through to the quarter-finals. They're both playing well, so it's going to be a good match, I'm sure." American Madison Keys, coached by former Wimbledon champion Lindsay Davenport, reached round four for the first time by brushing past Germa- ny's Tatjana Maria. Serving nine aces and plun- dering a host of winners, 20- year-old Keys won 6-4 6-4 on Court 12. And it was proving a grim day for Germany as former runner- up Sabine Lisicki also made a third-round exit. Lisicki bowed out 6-3 6-2 at the merciless hands of Swiss Timea Bacsinszky, which meant Germany had no repre- sentatives left in the women's singles. Romanian Monica Niculescu tackles Bacsinszky next after recording a 6-3 7-5 success against Kristyna Pliskova. Petra Kvitova: Won't be defending her Wimbledon title
