Events 46 maltatoday, Sunday, 26 July 2015 Emirates to launch flights to Bamako, Mali Bamako becomes Emirates' 28th destination in africa Bamako is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with a population of about 2.3 million people, and is located in the south western part of Mali on the Niger River. Once services commence, it will be- come Emirates' 28th destina- tion in Africa and 6th in West Africa, further strengthening the region's connectivity with the world through the airline's global network of more than 140 destinations across six con- tinents. Bamako will be linked to Emirates' current four times weekly service to Dakar, Sen- egal, which is operated by an Emirates Airbus A340-300 and offers 12 luxurious seats in First Class, 42 deep reclining seats in Business Class and 213 spa- cious seats in Economy Class. "There is currently no direct service between Dubai and Bamako. Mali has a growing economy and huge tourism potential, and we expect that linking Bamako to our Dakar service will greatly boost both business and leisure travel to and from Mali," said Adil Al Ghaith, Emirates Senior Vice President, Commercial Opera- tions, Northern and Western Africa. Mali is one of Africa's top gold producers, and it also boasts four UNESCO world heritage sites, which are the famous city of Timbuktu, the Old Towns of Djenne, the Tomb of Askia and the Cliff of Bandiagara. Emirates' Malian custom- ers can look forward to the airline's world famous service from its multi-national cabin crew on board all its f lights, gourmet cuisine and its award- winning entertainment system ice, which offers hundreds of channels of audio and visual entertainment, including the latest movies, music, as well as audio books and games. Emir- ates also offers its customers generous baggage allowance, with 50kg for First Class, 40kg for Business Class and 30kg for Economy Class. In addition to passenger serv- ices, Emirates SkyCargo, the airline's freight division, of- fers about 13 tonnes of cargo capacity per f light, which will further support Mali 's exports, such as seed oil, leather, fresh fruit and semi-conductors, and imports of woven fabrics, ma- chinery parts and components, pharmaceutical products and electrical and electronic equip- ment. The Eat Fresh Fish Fair is part of a campaign aimed at promoting the benefits of eating fresh fish as part of a healthy diet. The Fish Fair will include several activities such as information session on underutilised fish species including chub mackerel (kavall), saddled seabream (kaħli), gilthead seabream (awrat), uropean seabass (spnott) and European hake (merluzz), culinary lessons on the species mentioned above, including also a step by step guide on how to cook easy and tasty recipes at home, a kids area and FREE tasting ses- sions of the specified fish above. The Eat Fresh Fish campaign is an EU co-funded project led by the Department of Fish- eries and Aquaculture and supported by relevant stake- holders and project partners such as Għaqda Koperattiva tas-Sajd, the Malta Chef So- ciety, St. Peter Foundation, the Fishing Trawlers Asso- ciation, fish4tomorrow, the Federation of Maltese Aqua- culture Producers and Koop- erattiva Nazzjonali tas-Sajd. The campaign is co-financed at 75% EU Funds and 25% Na- tional Funds. Fresh fish is one of the healthiest foods suitable for all ages, and therefore it is an important part of everyone's diet. Fresh fish is the major source of omega 3 fats, high in good quality protein and low in saturated fat. It is also rich in nutrients such as Vita- min D and selenium.
