Themes may change from one week to the other Melita Youth Nursery U17s and U13s win the Munich Summer Cup THE Melita Youth Nursery U17 and U13 teams have won the re- spective categories in the Munich Summer Cup 2015 organised by KOMM MIT at Hans Bayer Stadi- um in Unterschleissheim, Munich. A total of 38 teams from 11 coun- tries took part in this extremely competitive tournament played in scorching weather conditions. In the U11 category, the Melita YN team lost in the final to 2-1 Un- ion Oberneukirchen, while a sec- ond team participating in the same category did not make it to the fi- nal stages. In the U15 category, the Melita team drew its first match against a strong German squad but also failed to qualify to the final stages. However one Melita boy who will remember this tourna- ment is Kurt Chircop who won the top scorer award for the U11s cat- egory. In the preliminaries the U13 Mel- ita YN team won all their games handsomely, however the semi- fi- nal match was a totally different story, with the team qualifying to the final on penalties. In the final the U13s were more concentrated and played good flowing football to win the final 2-1, after coming back from a goal down against NK Uljanik from Croatia. Jake Engerer won the top scorer award in this category. The U17 team also had an ex- tremely positive run and won all the preliminaries with some ease. The semi-final game against the Swiss side Team Camoghe proved the be extremely balanced and the Melita team qualified to the final after a penalty shoot-out. In the final, the Melita boys defended well and were tactically disciplined throughout the match, barely allowing their opponents any space. Just as in the semi-finals, the match went on to penalties after a 0-0 draw. Goal- keeper, Zak Mousu proved to be the hero of the day having saved 2 penalties after the Melita boys scored all four. Speaking on the club's return from the Munich Summer Cup 2015, Melita Club president Paul Zammit said that "although the results in Munich made us proud, as they were beyond expectation given the high level of competition, participation in this tournament was all about giving our young players the experience of partici- pating in a competitive and friendly environment overseas. On behalf of the club delegates, I would like to congratulate all the players not just for the results, but for their com- mitment and the level of play even when they were on the losing end."
