Birkirkara St. Joseph's Keith Galea came in second, in a time of sixteen minutes, forty one seconds, after shadowing Lima throughout the race, with the lat- ter sprinting to the finish line in an amazing show of strength, in sweltering conditions experienced by the athletes. Young Simon Spiteri (St. Patrick's AC) fought a hard battle with Steve Chetcuti (Birkirkara St. Joseph) both aiming to claim what evidently became the third place on the podium. However in the end it was Spiteri who crossed the finish line in third place in a time of sixteen minutes forty nine seconds. In the female category La Salle AC athlete Tara Abdilla, winner of the first edition of the seasons, did not race paving the way for a another female athlete to claim first place. With the likes of veteran athe- tles Rita Galea, Carmen Hili and Francesa Arrigo taking part, plac- ings on the podium were up for grabs and a final sprint from Car- men Hili could not be matched by Rita Galea (Mellieha AC) to take first place in a time of 19 minutes 19 seconds. Galea followed three seconds later. Third place was claimed by Angela Satariano (AS Libertas) in a time of 19 minutes 45 seconds. The Birkirkara St. Joseph 5K Road Running Series is held under the auspices of the Malta Ama- teur Athletics Association and the winner of the Series will be the athlete who garners the most points from all the three races ins the Series. The third and final race of the Series is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 18th August at 19:00hrs. With just under a month to go before he defends his world 100 and 200 titles in Beijing, the Ja- maican showed he had recovered from a pelvic injury that has dis- rupted his season, although he was left with plenty to ponder in the rain-lashed capital. The world's fastest man shook off the rust from his layoff -- this was his first 100 for over three months and first competitive race since mid-June -- to win his heat and the final in the same time, putting him equal sixth in the world this year. But he had to eat up the ground in the second half of both races, win- ning the final by three-hundredths of a second ahead of American Mike Rodgers (9.90) and fellow Ja- maican Kemar Bailey-Cole (9.92). "In the final I got a really bad start, I kind of lost focus but I got it back," Bolt told reporters after a routine lap of honour by his own showman standards. "I know I could have gone faster if I had just got my start." Asked about his fitness, Bolt added: "I'm good. I may go to see the doctor to make sure every- thing is fine but I'm feeling good. I'm still number one, I've never been number two.
