SEPTEMBER 6 1565: The Musical – In Concert A musical set in Malta '1565' follows the story of Henri de la Valette, a young knight of the Or- der of St John and nephew to the Grandmaster. Produced under artistic direction of Anthony Bez- zina, written by Malcolm Galea and composed by Paul Abela, the musical will be accompanied by The Malta Philharmonic Orches- tra and a 100 strong choir. SEPTEMBER 25, 26 90 Years of Film This year, Malta celebrates a very important milestone in its rich cinematic history with a concert by the Malta Philharmonic Or- chestra, under the artistic direc- tion of Maestro Brian Schembri. EXHIBITION AUGUST 31-SEPTEMBER 27 The Culture of Ageing Collective Exhibition Curated by Lennard Dost and Mare van Koningsveld, this col- lective exhibition addresses the concept of ageing through the questioning of the role of seniors within societies while also explor- ing how do these societies react to an ageing population. The exhibit approaches ageing from a Maltese perspective while also relating this perspective with other cul- tures. Artists taking part in this exhibition include: Adrian Abela, Michael Apted, Femke Bakker, Kristina Borg, Vince Briffa, Gil- bert Calleja, Azahara Cerezo, Libia Castro and Ólafur Ólafsson, Louise Hervé and Chloé Maillet, Bettina Hutschek, Trevin Matcek and Ferhat Özgür. Taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta. SEPTEMBER 2 Children of Men Screening of Alfonso Cuaron's dystopian film Children of Men at 67, Strait Street, Valletta at 19:30. Organised by Moviment Graffitti. Following the film, ac- tivist and poet Antoine Cassar will give a brief presentation on the current situation in Calais. He will be showing pictures he took when he visited this place. Entrance is against a €3 dona- tion. WHAT'S ON Valletta streetscapes in poetry and photography FOLLOWING the success of 'Birgu – Will you Remember?', an exhibition held in Birgu to commemorate its memories and changes, photographer Jacob Sammut and poet Miriam Calleja embark on a new journey, this time to discover another city. Their next exhibition explores Valletta, a place so dynamic and mysterious that you never know what you're going to find. This will be the second collaboration between the two artists. Sammut and Calleja have been working together on separate mediums to bring a streetscape image of Valletta together, this time showing more activity and movement, as the momentum of this city dictates. Held in the magnificent setting of the Sala Nobile at Palazzo Pereira, Republic Street Valletta, the exhibition will include sets of hand printed photographs divided into themes with accompanying poetry. The launch party will be held on the September 16 at 19:30, where you will be able to meet the artists and chat over a glass of wine and nibbles. The exhibition will be on show un- til the October 16 at various opening hours which will be announced on the Facebook event page.
