Themes may change from one week to the other WHAT'S ON TODAY Children of Men Screening of Alfonso Cuaron's dystopian film Children of Men at 67, Strait Street, Valletta at 19:30. Organised by Moviment Graffitti. Following the film, activist and poet Antoine Cassar will give a brief presentation on the current situation in Calais. He will be showing pictures he took when he visited this place. Entrance is against a €3 donation. NIGHTLIFE SEPTEMBER 12 Spots & Stripes A much-loved staple on the indie scene, Spots & Stripes brings DJ Bob and G is for Gustav back to the decks to get retro tunes and present crowd-pleasers to Beachaven. SEPTEMBER 25-27 The Bubble 2015 – A Festival of Music and Expression The Bubble returns this year with a host of activities at The Elysium in Ghajn Tuffieha. A number of non-profits will benefit from this year's festival, which creates an atmosphere of learning, creativity, music, charity, fun, relaxation, sharing of new ideas, and awakenings. MUSIC & THEATRE SEPTEMBER 3 Revenants: Degas in New Orleans This lecture, one of a series of events for this year's VIVA, shall be delivered by Gail Feigenbaum; associate director of the Getty Research Institute. The lecture focuses on the 1997 New Orleans Museum of Art r exhibition on Degas in New Orleans, which was a tremendous popular and critical success, and it stirred up a surprising controversy in a city where the dead still walk among the living. The event begins at 19:00, at the Museum of Fine Arts, South Street, Valletta. SEPTEMBER 4 Cliff Zammit Stevens Concert with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Top Maltese tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens returns home for his seventh, annual summer concert, where he will serenade his audience with pieces composed by Puccini, Tchaikovsky, Monteverdi, Donizetti, Verdi, and Rodgers & Hammerstein, among others. The performance will take place at Pjazza Teatru Rjal at 20:00, and will also feature guest soprano Hannah Sandison, who will be performing duets with Cliff. SEPTEMBER 5 The Areola Treat • The Velts Alternative rock bands The Areola Treat and The Veldts will be performing aboard The Black Pearl, Ta' Xbiex from 22:00. Entrance is at €5. SEPTEMBER 6 1565: The Musical – In Concert A musical set in Malta '1565' follows the story of Henri de la Valette, a young knight of the Order of St John and nephew to the Grandmaster. Produced under artistic direction of Anthony Bezzina, written by Malcolm Galea and composed by Paul Abela, the musical will be accompanied by The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and a 100 strong choir. SEPTEMBER 25, 26 90 Years of Film This year, Malta celebrates a very important milestone in its rich cinematic history with a concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Maestro Brian Schembri. The audience will have the opportunity to hear, feel and be able to experience the soundtracks of some of the greatest films shot in Malta. Tickets, from €15 to €30, available on www.mcc.com.mt. EXHIBITION UNTIL SEPTEMBER 27 The Culture of Ageing Collective Exhibition Curated by Lennard Dost and Mare van Koningsveld, this collective exhibition addresses the concept of ageing through the questioning of the role of seniors within societies while also exploring how do these societies react to an ageing population. The exhibit approaches ageing from a Maltese perspective while also relating this perspective with other cultures. Artists taking part in this exhibition include: Adrian Abela, Michael Apted, Femke Bakker, Kristina Borg, Vince Briffa, Gilbert Calleja, Azahara Cerezo, Libia Castro and Ólafur Ólafsson, Louise Hervé and Chloé Maillet, Bettina Hutschek, Trevin Matcek and Ferhat Özgür.
