EXHIBITIONS SEPTEMBER 16-OCTOBER 18 Valletta Streetscapes Collaborative exhibition themed around Valletta, by photographer Jacob Sammut and poet Miriam Calleja, at Palazzo Pereira, Valletta. SEPTEMBER 18 Rabat open studio with Sue Mifsud and Stephanie Borg Open studio day by Sue Mifsud (ceramics) and Stephanie Borg (original and printed art work). There will also be a wide variety of works on show and for sale. Doors open at 19:30. SEPTEMBER 24-OCTOBER 2 Mostra bibliografica antiquaria – Dante Alighieri To celebrate the 750th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's birth, the National Library of Malta and the Italian Cultural Institute have organized a bibliographic exhibition displaying antique and precious editions of the works of the Supreme Poet at the National Library of Malta, Valletta. The exhibition comprises of some splendid 19th century editions of the Divine Comedy with fine gold bindings and decorated with the famous engravings by French artist and engraver Gustave Doré. On display there will also be some editions of this literary work in English and Maltese. UNTIL SEPTEMBER 27 The Culture of Ageing Collective Exhibition Curated by Lennard Dost and Mare van Koningsveld, this collective exhibition addresses the concept of ageing through the questioning of the role of seniors within societies while also exploring how do these societies react to an ageing population. The exhibit approaches ageing from a Maltese perspective while also relating this perspective with other cultures. Artists taking part in this exhibition include: Adrian Abela, Michael Apted, Femke Bakker, Kristina Borg, Vince Briffa, Gilbert Calleja, Azahara Cerezo, Libia Castro and Ólafur Ólafsson, Louise Hervé and Chloé Maillet, Bettina Hutschek, Trevin Matcek and Ferhat Özgür. Taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta. FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 25 Science in the City Fourth edition of the festival of science and culture will be taking place around the streets of Valletta from 18:00 to midnight. Featuring experiments, exhibitions, talks, debates, poetry, films, and the performing arts and more. The key attraction this year will be a reproduction of this year's Rosetta landing on Comet 67P. PUBLIC LECTURE SEPTEMBER 18 Teleportation… and what is light? Public lecture on teleportation by Prof. Anton Zeilinger, president of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, at the Old University Campus, Valletta at 19:00. It was Zeilinger, one of Europe's most influential quantum physicists, who made teleportation a reality. During the talk, he will talk about his work in quantum physics, how entanglement allows scientists to do bizarre things, and his quest to understand what light really is.
