In yesterday's first match, the Rainbows took an early lead but a penalty late in the game enabled Flo- riana to rescue a point and extend their positive run to four matches to join Mosta in third place. The re- sult also saw Tarxien move on level points with Valletta, a point behind the Greens. Tarxien started the game on the offensive and created the first goal scoring opportunity after a mere three minutes with Luke Montebel- lo setting up nicely Spanish winger Carlos Hevia who, however, fired his shot over the bar. But Tarxien fans did not have to wait much longer to see their side open the score, when in their next attack Brazilian midfielder Joao Pedro curled a delightful free-kick into the top corner of the net. The Greens reacted well and their Argentine striker Nicholas Hernan Chiesa combined with Italian for- ward Mario Fontanella who saw his shot parried away by Andrea Cas- sar. The Rainbows came close to dou- bling their lead five minutes from the break but Matthew Calleja Cre- mona showed great reflexes to deny the lively Montebello. Although Floriana enjoyed long spells of possession they rarely threatened Cassar's goal. Trxien came close to score a second goal with Brazilian striker Danilo going close to score before Floriana res- cued a point with a late penalty. Seven minutes from time, Welsh referee Ryan Stewart adjudged Bruno Giglio de Oliveira to have handled the ball inside the area and from the penalty spot, Fonta- nella made no mistake to secure the Greens' unbeaten record in their last four matches.
