Data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) for August indicate a decrease of 1,878 persons registering under Part I and an increase of 94 among those registering under Part II of the unemployment register, when compared to August 2014. Overall, decreases in registered unemployment were recorded among all age groups. When compared to August last year, registrants for work decreased irrespective of how long they had been registering. The largest decrease was recorded among persons who had been registering for over one year. The number of persons with a disability who were registering for work also decreased by 62 to 402. Males accounted for 81.6 per cent of total registrants with a disability. The largest share of males on the unemployment register sought occupations as crafts and related trade workers (18%), whereas their female counterparts mostly sought occupations as clerical support workers (27.0 per cent). The registered unemployment rate in April 2015 stood at 3.2 per cent of the labour supply, (excluding part- time employment), and varied from 3.7 per cent among men to 2.2 per cent among women. Seat says 700,000 cars have 'cheat' emissions software Seat has said about 700,000 of its cars are fitted with the soft- ware that allowed parent company Volkswagen to cheat US emis- sions tests. A spokesman said they are currently trying to work out how many were sold in each national market. In Spain slightly over 3,000 new cars are affected but showrooms have been told to put them aside. VW has said a total of 11 million diesel engines are involved in the emission's scandal. Seat said it planned to contact owners so their cars can undergo tests. It will also set up a search engine on its website to allow customers to find out if their vehicles are affected. The Spanish carmaker said it had temporarily suspended the sale and delivery of all new vehicles with the EA 189 engines. The scandal was revealed after the US Environmental Protection Agency found that some VW diesel cars were fitted with devices that could detect when the engine was being tested, and could change the car's performance to improve results. The German company has apologised for breaching consumers' trust, and on Friday announced that Matthias Mueller was replacing Martin Winterkorn as chief executive. Mueller promised a "relentless" investigation to uncover what went wrong. German prosecutors announced on Monday that it was conducting a criminal investigation of Volkswagen's former chief executive. Asian shares see sharp losses amid global sell-off Asian shares fell sharply as fears over growth prospects and commodity prices continued to drive a global sell- off in equities. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index closed down 4.05% at 16,930.84. The index hit an eight-month low ahead of the closely watched Bank of Japan's Tankan quarterly business confidence survey, due on Thursday. Japan's economy has struggled to pick up momentum after shrinking in the second quarter. A weak survey of Chinese industrial profits, released on Monday, also added to investors' concerns about the world's second-largest economy. Investors are looking ahead to manufacturing surveys on Thursday for more information on the extent of the slowdown in China. The Shanghai Composite closed down 2% at 3,038.14. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index closed down 3% at 20,556.60 after being closed on Monday. The benchmark was dragged lower by Glencore shares which finished the day down nearly 30% following a similar drop in London on Monday.
