22 maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 23 SEPTEMBER 2015 Sport FORMULA 1 POWERBOAT RACING Republic Street, Valletta next to the Courts Fabrizio Giugiaro handed over Chaudron 45G Edition at Cannes WILFRED SULTANA THE Venice-Montecarlo En- durance Race pavilion at the recently held 2015 Cannes Yachting Festival drew a size- able audience from the industr y, sport and media sectors related to powerboats for the official unveiling and presentation of the Chaudron 45G Edition pow- erboat to renowned Italian de- signer Fabrizio Giugiaro. Specifically build by six times world champion Chaudron Pow- erboats Malta to the explicit ap- peal of its distinguished owner the Chaudron 45G Edition is an extraordinar y 45-foot power- boat that combines astonishing speed – reaching 120 mph, mak- ing it probably the fastest in the world – with excellent comfort and design. Fabrizio Giugiaro, whose fas- cination and passion in the automotive sector for body- work architecture dates back to his BMW Nazca M12 design in 1991, was a knowledgeable source of guidance who contrib- uted to enhance the Chaudron 45 2014 World Championship winning model, from bow to the stern, resulting in a simpler and more 'pure' shape, ideal to enjoy the full experience of cruising even at high speed. A key attractio of the Chaudron 45G Edition is its fashionable camouf lage body, with a strong horizontal red line that gives more dynamism to the overall shape. However one feature which re- ally made news at the Cannes boat Show, as it is a novelt y on racing boats, was the Chaudron 45G Edition deck that can be hy- draulically elevated giving the racing boat an entertainment characteristic while keeping high performances – a Giugiaro handiwork. Further to the international unveiling of the Chaudron 45G Edition and the presentation to its proud new owner the 2015 Cannes Yachting Festival inau- guration was also the platform for a special announcement that the Chaudron 45G Edition spe- cially built for Fabrizio Giugiaro was the first confirmed partici- pant for the IX Edition of the "Venezia Montecarlo 2016". Acclaimed as the longest and most fascinating powerboats race in the world the 2016 edi- tion of the 1,500 miles race will be held bet ween the 1st and 12th July. "It is a special and important event to the UIM and power- boating in general – remarked the secretar y general of the In- ternational Union Powerboat, Kurt Thomas – not only for its stor y but for what it is able to project for the future in way of its uniqueness and the environ- ment in which it takes place." "It is an important race for strong, solid and reliable boats, said Aaron Ciantar. This year I experienced the Venice Monte Carlo in the UIM Class V1. Af- ter tasting such daring adven- ture I want to be there again and win the Golden Lion together with Fabrizio Giugiaro and our Chaudron 45G Edition. I know I can do it keeping to Chaudron motto: "We race what we build." "A creative experience, said Fabrizio Giugiaro, who at the next Venice Monte Carlo will be aboard his creation along- side Aaron Ciantar. I designed this boat firstly for my personal needs but then was pushed by Aaron to take part in prestig- ious competitions. " Leading the press confer- ence at the Venice-Montecarlo Endurance Race pavilion was Fiorella de Septis, President of the Organizing Committee who acknowledged with pleas- ure Fabrizio Giugiaro and his Chaudron 45G Edition, as the first entr y for the 2016 Edition and once again stressed the Or- ganisers' mission statement, namely, staging "a project coun- tr y in the ser vice of sailing and excellence". The intruder, named as Yogvi- tam Pravin Dhokia, was arrested by police after gaining access to the circuit along the Esplanade Bridge, between Turns 13 and 14. CCTV footage later showed the man jumping through a gap in the fence, before walking across the circuit and speeding up when lead- er Sebastian Vettel approached. The man has been formally charged by authorities in Singa- pore with committing "a rash act" which "endangered the personal safety of the drivers involved in the race". He will appear in court again on 6 October, and faces up to six months in prison.
