St. Andrews have still to register a point after nine matches. Tarxien were the better side from the start of the match. On the 21st minute, Ayrton Azzop- ardi had a great chance to score but his shot went high over the net. Great goalkeeping by St. An- drews Kris Kalleja denied a great effort Luke Montebello. St. Andrews went close to tak- ing the lead when off a corner by Joseph Farrugia, Michael John- son's header went wide. Tarxien managed to score the goal that secured all three points on 64 minutes. A direct freekick by Ayrton Azzopardi from the right left no chance for goalkeep- er Kris Calleja. Tarxien went close to doubling their lead on 90 minutes when a shot by Lucky Omeruo hit the crossbar following a def lection by goalkeeper Kri Calleja. Coach: Wayne Attard Tarxien edge past St. Andrews Blues return to winning ways with narrow victory over Naxxar Sliema Wanderers ...... 2 Naxxar Lions ............. 1 SLIEMA Wanderers returned to winning way in a 2-1 vic- tory against Naxxar Lions at the National Stadium in Ta' Qali. The Blues hit the ground run- ning and after only two minutes were denied by the woodwork as Pedrinho's curling shot came off the post. The Wanderers were the most lively team and Brazilian striker Pedrinho kept Naxxar's defend- ers busy throughout the game. After missing a sitter, the Bra- zilian set up Aidan Jake Frig- gieri who put Sliema ahead from Pedrinho's set piece. The Blues almost added an- other on 23 minutes when Gary Muir picked Pedrinho whose shot on the turn was pushed away by Julian Azzopardi. Sliema doubled the score 10 minutes later when Rafael Ledesma's direct freekick from the right beat Azzopardi in the bottom right side. Naxxar got back in the match on 36 minutes when Daren Fal- zon took advantage of Sliema goalkeeper Entonjo Elezaj's in- decision to poke the ball into the net. The Blues kept pushing for a third but could not regain their two-goal lead. Sliema came clos- est on the hour when Pedrinho's free-kick came off the bar with Azzopardi beaten.
