The special fares are only bookable online at www.emirates.com/mt. Available for purchase between 26 October and 1 November 2015, customers can enjoy re- turn airfares from Malta to Du- bai starting from €579, inclusive of taxes. The great value offer also ex- tends to return flights beyond Dubai including Bangkok from €649; Beijing and Shanghai from €689; Hong Kong from €749; Singapore and Tokyo from €729, Cape Town and Johannesburg from €799, Delhi from €629; Mumbai from €669; and Ma- nila from €849. Three gold medals for Delicata red wines THREE gold medals have been awarded to three Delicata red wines at the 2015 Emozioni dal Mondo Merlot e Cabernet Insieme international wine competition held in Bergamo. The Gold medals were awarded to the 2014 Gran Cavalier barrel- matured Merlot D.O.K. Superior Malta, the 2014 Grand Vin de Hauteville Cabernet Sauvignon D.O.K. Superior Malta and the 2014 Classic Collection Marenzio Merlot I.G.T. Maltese Islands. The 2014 Gran Cavalier Mer- lot was also awarded the Premio Della Stampa (press prize), a spe- cial award commended by a select commission of wine journalists to the highest scoring wine from each country, with a score of at least 85/100. Earlier this year Delicata, the fourth generation family run win- emaking company, achieved a noteworthy milestone in its long history, by being awarded over 100 international wine awards (1995 - 2015). These latest gold medals now bring Delicata's total internation- al wine award count up to an im- pressive 110 awards. Twenty-six of these awards (6 gold, 2 silver, 9 bronze, 8 commendations and a press award) were won in the last two years, all under the direct stewardship of Matthew Delicata, the company's winemaker. The international judging panels for the wines at the Emozioni dal Mondo Merlot e Cabernet Insieme were composed of special com- missions of no less than five mem- bers – made up by oenologists, oenotechnicians, sensorialists, professional tasters and oenogas- tronomic journalists, coming from 24 different countries. According to OIV regulations only 30% of the samples submit- ted can be awarded a medal and to win a gold medal the wines must be awarded between 85 to 100 points. Wines from 17 different winemaking countries participat- ed in this year's competition. This international competition only judges wines made from the three red grape varieties, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The three gold medals, won by Delicata Cabernet and Merlot wines, were awarded alongside other awards won by prestigious wine producers, fromTuscany, Chile and Bordeaux., This year's competition was organised by the Vignaioli Ber- gamaschi S.C.A. with the spon- sorship of the Organisation In- ternationale de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV) and the authorisation of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, with the sci- entific collaboration of the Interu- niversity Centre for Winegrowing and Enology of Verona, the De- gree in Winemaking and Enology from the University of Udine, the Winegrowing Institute of the Uni- versita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Piacenza and the Wine tasters study centre. Delicata is Malta's most award- ed winery. Between 6th and 8th No- vember, Concept 2 are holding the annual world ski sprints on the Ski Erg. This is a 1k sprint that is held in clubs, gyms, studios and schools every where with race results authenticated and posted on- line. Last year over 1,200 fitness enthusiasts competed in the event aged between 5 and 85 in different age categories. The fastest male time posted was by an American and the fastest female by a Swede. This year, locals in Malta will have the opportunity to compete and put Malta on the World Ski sprint map. Lakes fitness stu- dios are holding a joint Open 1k ski erg sprint, with age group categories in which all are welcome to take part and these results will be officially authenticated and posted in the world ski event. Veteran Ken Lake, a fitness consultant and an avid racer in Concept 2 indoor rowing events, is the current world record holder for both the 60's men's 500 and 1k Ski Erg cat- egories would like to see locals in as many diverse age catego- ries have a go this year.
