Events 47 maltatoday, Sunday, 15 november 2015 Farsons host events showcasing Tasca d'Almerita fine wines Farsons Beverage Imports Company (FBIC) Limited recently hosted two wine events to show- case the wines from the historic sicilian winery, Tasca d'almerita – a family of wine entrepreneurs whose key words are sustainabil- ity, quality, tradition and innova- tion. since 1830 they have been passionately dedicated to sicily, an island rich in diverse soils, cli- mates and altitudes. Tasca's envoy antonio Viran- do, a sicilian wine connoisseur, led the guests at both events on a journey through the regaleali and Tascante estates. The first event was a tasting session at Farsonsdirect's The Wine shop in Mriehel. The session kicked off with the almerita Brut, one of the finest sparkling wines sicily has to offer, followed by regaleali 's Grecanico and Per- ricone. Ghiaia nera from their Tascante estate was next – an interpretation of nerello Mas- calese from young vineyards expressing soft tannins, good drinkability and freshness. The session finished off with Capo- faro's Diamante, a sweet wine made from Muscat and Gewürz- traminer grapes grown in the highest part of the estate and left to dry in the shade to pre- serve acidity and its aromatic characteristics. ristorante Dolce Vita over- looking st Julians' picturesque spinola Bay, was the location for the second event. once again antonio Virando led the evening presenting the wines from their regaleali and Capofaro estates with some fabulous pairings. The highlights of the night in- cluded Leone d 'almerita, f lag- ship wine nozze d 'oro, riserva del Conte, rosso del Conte 2007 and Malvasia. Tasca d 'almerita is managed by Count Lucio Tasca and his sons Giuseppe and alberto. Te- nuta regaleali is set amid 500ha of dramatic hills in the heart of sicily – a triumphant example of environmental protection and viticultural biodiversity. The other estates are: Tascante on the slopes of the Mt Etna vol- cano, where vineyards are sur- rounded by century-old chest- nut woods; Capofaro Malvasia & resort on salina island, part of the aeolian archipelago; and sallier de La Tour in the prov- ince of Palermo. While the history of Tasca d 'almerita dates back to the 19th century, it was Count Giuseppe Tasca who started a new era for the winery and the sicilian wine business in the late 1950s, de- voting himself to the promotion of sicilian wines and introduc- ing a new business model based on quality and innovation rather than quantity and bulk produc- tion. He launched the winery's two f lagship wines: rosso del Conte and nozze d 'oro. FBIC proudly imports and dis- tributes Tasca d 'almerita wines locally. available in selected restaurants, wine boutiques and Farsonsdirect's The Wine shop in Mriehel (w w w.farsonsdirect. com). Hilton Malta team members give the Inspire Foundation craft rooms a much needed facelift In celebration of Hilton World- wide's annual Global Month of service, throughout october, more than 100 volunteers from Hilton Malta have refurbished a crafts and pottery room at the Inspire Foundation used by Chil- dren and adults. "It was great to see our Team Members and suppliers come together for a good cause. The Inspire Foundation provides services to many people at a subsidised rate and sustainable provision of this service is only possible with the help of dona- tions and sponsors," said Mat- thew Mullan, General Manager at Hilton Malta. In support and acknowledge- ment of the project, President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca took time out of her busy schedule on the 28 october in order to per- sonally visit all the Hilton team members at Inspire who were busy sanding, painting, cleaning and getting the room prepared for reopening. Upon visiting Inspire in Marsas- cala to discuss the wish to part- ner for Hilton's Global Month of service event, it was immediately apparent that the crafts and pot- tery rooms used by the clients as part of their treatment was in a bad state of repair. Hilton Team Members decided to focus their energy on this one project, mak- ing sure to deliver a full make over to the two rooms. The hotel put together con- tractors and team members who worked over a two week period in their own time to strip the ex- istent rooms down and set them back up with new ceilings, f loor- ing, furniture and health and safety equipment amongst oth- ers. Hilton Malta would like to thank all suppliers who greatly assisted with the project: saw Ltd, Halmann, Franky Plaster- ing Ltd, Makaw, Mark schembri, Curtain Call, Inside out, Cusch- ieri aluminum, Calamatta, Mac- med, satariano, CV woodworks, Classic furniture, GEs, Elektra, and Gasan. since its inaugural service celebration in 2012, Hilton vol- unteers have provided support to more than 6,700 projects worldwide contributing more than 300,000 hours of commu- nity service. Last year in just one week, Hilton hosted more than 3,500 projects in 86 countries, volunteering more than 150,000 hours. The company aims to complete 3,750 projects across its global footprint.
