maltatoday, SUNDAY, 15 NOVEMBER 2015 53 THE match had been in ques- tion following the Paris terror attacks on Friday night which left at least 128 people dead. One of the attacks took place near the Stade de France, where Les Bleus were playing Germany in a friendly. However, the FFF announced in a statement on Saturday: "President Noel Le Graet con- firmed on Saturday that the match between England and France scheduled for Tuesday November 17 (8pm local time) at Wembley will still take place." UEFA issued a brief statement on Saturday morning regarding the attacks. It read: "UEFA is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic events which occurred in Paris last night and wishes to ex- press its support and solidarity to France and to those affected by these horrible acts." The Football Association said the FFF had made it clear they wanted the friendly to go ahead. FA chairman Greg Dyke added in a statement: "Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the city of Paris after these terrible atrocities. On behalf of The FA, I want to express our sorrow and send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of those who have lost their lives. "After consulting this morning with the French Football Fed- eration and the British Govern- ment, we have decided together that the match between our two countries at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night should go ahead. "We will use the opportunity to pay our respects to all af- fected and also to express our solidarity with the people of France." Sport SPORTTODAY FOOTBALL England-France friendly will go ahead as planned England's international football friendly with France at Wembley will go ahead as planned on Tuesday, the French Football Federation has announced Fans on the pitch at the Stade de France David Luiz's Brazil career could be over after red card The international future of David Luiz looked to be in question after a poor performance and a needless sending off left coach Dunga fuming at his irresponsibility in Brazil's 1-1 draw against Argentina on Friday LUIZ was booked after 86 minutes for throwing an el- bow and he was lucky not to get sent off for the rash inter- vention. However, the Paris St. Ger- main defender did not take the warning and two minutes later he plunged in with his boot up and was given a straight red by the Paraguayan referee. "He deserved to be sent off," a stern Dunga told reporters afterwards. "There's nothing to complain about." Dunga is known for defend- ing his players in even the most extreme circumstances and his curt summing up could signal his patience has run out with the player who has won 55 caps. Luiz and Dani Alves were at fault for the Argentina goal when they let Ezequiel Lavezzi steal in between them to side- foot home 10 minutes before halftime. Luiz was also frequently caught out as Argentina threw in crosses both high and low. His erratic showing could be good news for his Paris St. Germain teammate Thiago Silva, who fell out of favour after Brazil's World Cup de- bacle. Silva cried during one World Cup match and refused to take a penalty in another and the famously hard-nosed Dunga believed he was not psycholog- ical prepared for the pressures of international football.
