Pembroke were the better team on the day but a string of good saves from Qormi's Jean Mathias Vella denied the newly-promoted side the three points. The result leaves Pembroke lev- el with Sliema Wanderers on 14 points while the yellows remain second from bottom on six. Athleta coach Winston Muscat fielded an unchanged side from Pembroke's last outing against Valletta while Qormi introduced Emerson Vella and new signing Djamel Leeflang, instead of Ryan Micallef and Terence Vella. Pembroke had the better of the first half but poor finishing and the impeccable Vella in Qormi's goal saw the two sides going into halftime goalless. The second half brought no change in the pattern of the game as Pembroke retained most of the possession and created the better chances. In a rare Qormi attack, Kurt Magro threatened to break the deadlock but his strong shot went marginally wide of the post. Pembroke responded by creat- ing the game's best opportunity but their American midfielder, Gibson Bardsley, wasted a glori- ous chance to put them in the lead – with the goalmouth beckoning and only Vella to beat, the un- marked American fired wide and the match ended in a stalemate.
