The surprise result saw a resur- gent Pembroke side hold Hibs to a 1-1 draw at the Paolites' own home ground yesterday. The Paolites could have won the game comfortably were it not for their wastefulness in front of goal and the fine form of former Hibs stalwart Mario Muscat who produced a series of saves to keep Pembroke in the game. Hibs were without Brazilian duo Jackson Lima and Jorge Santos Silva but Rui da Gracia Gomes was back on the bench for the reigning champions after recov- ering from a long-term injury. Hibernians did not take long to go in front when Bjorn Kristensen headed past his former teammate goalkeeper Mario Muscat after nine minutes. Hibs dominated the first half, creating several goal scoring chances but Muscat denied his former employers with good saves from Jurgen Degabriele and Mar- celo Dias. However, Pembroke drew level two minutes before the break when Gustavo Villalobos ran into the box and fired a low shot past Malta's international goalkeeper Justin Haber. As the game resumed, Hibs' for- tunes did not change and on the one-hour mark playmaker An- drew Cohen saw his header come off the crossbar and Gilmar fired the rebound against the side-net- ting. Minutes later, Hibs thought they had finally breached the stubborn Pembroke defence but substitute Joseph Mbong's close-range ef- fort went just centimeters wide after a good move involving Co- hen and Gilmar unlocked the promoted side's defence.
