However, the police – who took almost 40 minutes to arrive on the scene where three young men were beaten up by bouncers – ar- rested only three people. Moreover, despite prosecuting officer In- spector Elton Taliana telling the court that Aquilina was "severely beaten" after at- tempting to kick one of the arrested men, the footage shows that the young man was repeatedly punched and kicked before trying to retaliate. Speaking to MaltaToday, Aquilina's mother said that only three people were arrested despite CCTV footage showing more men involved in the horrific beating. "Inspector Taliana's reply was that I should thank God that three men were arrested because had it been somebody else nobody would have been arrested," the mother said. The three men – establishment manager Godwin Micallef and two bouncers Miroslav Sasic and Nicolae Dobra – have already ap- peared in court charged with injuring Aq- uilina and his friend Larkin Stafrace in the early hours of Wednesday, 24 February. 20-year-old Nicholas Aquilina, from Mar- sa, suffered grievous injuries including a fractured nose, while Stafrace escaped with slight injuries. PN loans' scheme doesn't fall under financing rules 4 New law next week will remove some 190 illegal billboards Stick no bills! MATTHEW VELLA The Nationalist Party's initiative to seek financing from small loans of €10,000 on an interest rate of 4%, will fall outside the scope of recently enacted party financing rules, this newspaper has been told. Although loans can be considered donations in terms of party financing rules, a loan taken out by a political party on rates that are not more favourable than prevailing commercial rates, does not make such loans 'donations'. "It is completely voluntary and we are re- sponding to requests from well-intentioned individuals who want to help the PN," said Ann Fenech, the PN's executive committee president who will be supervising the scheme together with party treasurer Alex Perici Ca- lascione. At a compound interest rate of 4%, the prin- cipal €10,000 would rise to €14,802 after 10 years. But the existing depressed interest rate environment means that such a loan does not qualify it to fall under party financing rules.
