The centre provides a full three-month induction train- ing programme in handling tel- ephone banking, on full pay, to successful candidates. HBEU People Experience and Recruitment Manager Richard Powell said: "As the largest contact centre and the biggest higher sec- ondary school in Malta, the part- nership between HSBC UK Con- tact Centre and Giovanni Curmi is a natural alliance. Bupa Malta provided participants with a free haircut and style from Toni & Guy. President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca hosted a presentation cer- emony at The Palace in Valletta on April 14, to give special rec- ognition to those volunteers who generously gave up their hair in support of those going through oncology treatment and help Bupa Malta raise awareness of Breast Cancer, in collaboration with Action for Breast Cancer Foundation. Highlights of the event includ- ed 120 people donating their hair, which will result in 50 real hair wigs being made from those donations. The wigs will benefit Maltese patients undergoing on- cology treatment. Charles Zarb, Branch Manager Bupa Malta said, "Interest from people who wanted to help out was very high and beat our ex- pectations by 20%. We are very grateful to all volunteers who gave up their hair and we look forward to helping out oncology patients in the near future." Barbara and Alana Attard, mother and daughter who both participated in the project said "We participated in this ini- tiative organised by Bupa Malta because we wanted to donate something for a good cause without benefitting ourselves and Bupa helped us do that." Coleiro Preca presented each participant with a certificate of recognition and a gift from Bupa Malta at the event. Banif steps up green efforts SUSTAINABILITY is one of the cornerstones of Banif 's philos- ophy, and it is for this reason that the Bank implemented a number of environmentally themed activities throughout March and April as part of the Banif Earth Month. The initiatives kicked off with Earth Hour – the glob- al initiative aimed at rais- ing awareness and shining a light on climate change. As in previous years, the Bank joined thousands of organisa- tions worldwide by switching off auxiliary lights across its branch network. This time round, Banif went a step fur- ther by leaving them off for an entire long weekend. Each Branch and Unit nomi- nated their Green Captains, who were encouraged to con- tribute suggestions for more eco-friendly practices across the Bank. They were then tasked with being the drivers of change, and sharing what their teams did around the office and at home to aid the planet in being greener. Banif implemented a perma- nent change by accepting a new type of deposit, deploying bat- tery banks across branches for staff and customers to bring in used batteries for recycling, helping to reduce waste and combat the potential hazards of improper disposal. All this was supported by promotion on social media which raised awareness on the importance of looking after our planet and explained how Banif Bank, its team and cus- tomers all came together to help #ChangeClimateChange.
