Programme: Mozart: Don Giovanni Overture Mozart: Piano Concerto D minor K 466 Schumann: Symphony Nr 3 in E-f lat 'Rhenish'. Two works by Mozart, composed only two years apart, both written in the dark, chilling key of D-minor and depicting the composer at his most dramatic. Two blasting chords announce the beginning of the masterful Don Giovanni Overture, which provides the perfect canvas for the great Piano Concerto. The second half transports the audience through five movements of music, in Schumann's last and arguably most beautiful Symphony. MAY 6 Trackage Scheme pres. Julian Milkis – leading voice for his instrument in the field of jazz. Giuliano Mazzoccante – famous Italian musician, the student of legendary Russian pianist Lazar Berman. Entrance free of charge. MAY 13 Nascente Homage concert to the pillars of Brazilian popular music – Milton Nascimento, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Djavan and Caetano Veloso at Strait Street, Valletta (near Splendid) at 20:00. Featuring Sandro Zerafa (guitar) Oliver Degabriele (bass) Fred Pasqua (drums). Concert is free of charge. EXHIBITIONS APRIL 23-MAY 6 Altered Egos Exhibition of paintings by Gulja Holland at the Malta Maritime Museum, Birgu. The artist's latest series features psychologically charged paintings, drawings and an exciting and dynamic combination of the traditional and digital disciplines of painting and photography resulting in 'photo paintings'. Such works echo the inf luence of artists Gerard Richter and Francis Bacon. Curated by Justine Balzan Demajo. APRIL 23-MAY 16 You Are What You Eat Collective exhibition about what food says about our society, at Blitz, St Lucy Street, Valletta. Featuring works by Aaron Bezzina, Sarah Maria Scicluna and Pippin Barr, led by anthropologist Elise Billiard- Pisani. Curated by Alexandra Pace. A creative collaboration between human rights NGO Aditus and Blitz. MAY 5 Migratio: Mdina – Valletta A site-specific project by Ilaria Cuccagna, under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci at Strait Street, Valletta (near the Splendid). Cuccagna will be experimenting with wall textures, transposing some from Mdina to the Valletta wall in an attempt to ref lect "the historical tensions between these two capitals". Organised in collabration with Valletta 2018 Foundation and the Department of History of Art, University of Malta. FILM SCREENING APRIL 27 Kinemastik Film Club – The Consequences of Love Brikkuni frontman Mario Vella curates the upcoming editions of the Kinemastik Film Club, held at the British Legion Bar, Melita Street, Valletta at 20:00. First film in the series will be Paolo Sorrentino's existential thriller The Consequences of Love. Entrance is against a small donation. MISCELLANEOUS MAY 6, 7, 8 Valletta Green Festival 2016 A weekend-long event organised by the Valletta 2018 Foundation that raises awareness about the environment by transforming otherwise urban areas such as Valletta into colourful green areas. The main attraction of the festival is the infiorata, a large installation which transforms one of the largest open spaces in Valletta, Pjazza San Ġorġ with a huge f loral carpet of some 80,000 potted plants.
