Sliema Wanderers defeated Balzan 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out to win their 21st FA Trophy in the history of the club. Winning the FA Trophy gave Sliema a ticket to European competition, but due to the
fact they did not obtain a UEFA licence they will not be able to play in Europe. The final did not produce much excitement as scoring chances were rare. Balzan lost a great chance to take advantage of
Sliema when Njongo Priso was sent off near the end of the second half. Clifford Gatt scored the winning goal in the penalty shoot-out to crush Balzan's hopes of winning their first major honour in the
history of the club.
