EXHIBITIONS UNTIL JUNE 26 Stejjer Imfewha – A Multi- Disciplinary Exhibition Stejjer Imfewħa – A Multi- Disciplinary Exhibition dwells into different forms of expression such as installation art, written and sound art, photography, performance and drawing. Taking place at the Inquisitor's Palace, Birgu. This exhibition presents the results of a collective assemble of research and information, presented in a creative way so as to ensure audience gain experience and also award experience. Featuring artists: Amy Borg, Glen Calleja, Guido Lanfranco, Sarah Mamo and Kasia Zmokla. Curated by Sabrina Calleja Jackson. UNTIL JUNE 17 L-gh Three years of intense work and research from the first batch of graduating Digital Arts students at the University of Malta will culminate in a collective exhibition at the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences (MaKS) at the University of Malta. The exhibition is titled 'L-għ', a name which serves as an umbrella term to describe all twelve projects together whilst simultaneously exploiting the individual uniqueness of each one. JUNE 18-JULY 3 Materia: Ritus MATERIA is a project conceived by artist, Adrian Abela, and is part of the 'CHARTI' project, held in collaboration with Valletta 2018, where the main aim is to reinterpret traditional elements of the Maltese festa, giving them relevance within the contemporary international setting. Taking place at Spazju Kreattiv (St James Cavalier), Valletta. THEATRE & PERFORMANCE JUNE 17 Unlocked – a devised theatre performance Devised theatre performance of Neil Gaiman's children's book Coraline at M Space, Msida at 20:00, by Masquerade's Physical Theatre Company (MPTC). Led by instructor Marie Kieser-Neilsen and featuring Celine Bartolo, Delphine Ural, Eszter Joo, James Camilleri, Jonathan Azzopardi, Julia Camilleri, Justyna Ch, Maria Cristina Caruana, Mary Helen Grima, Melusine Quercia, Netta Vinn, Roxana Dimech and Victor Debono. JUNE 21-23; 26-28; AUGUST 23-25 Kelma Kelma Nota Nota Three concerts combining Maltese music and literature at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta at 21:00. The first concert – Tlaqna Nghabbu – will be taking place between June 21 and 23; the second – Kuncert Bla Vat – between June 26 and 28 and Ghal Kbar Biss between August 23 and 25. Featuring Daniel Cauchi and the Big Band Brothers, Ray Calleja and Michael Spagnol. LITERARY EVENTS JUNE 16 Rima book launch: Undertow Launch of Undertow: Poetics of Displacement, a culminating publication for the ongoing Valletta 2018/Malta Arts Fund- sponsored Rima project, at Villa Frere, Pieta at 18:30. The book aims to deconstruct stereotyped notions of migration by allowing migrants of various nationalities to tell their stories. The book will be on sale at the launch, and refreshments will be served. JUNE 17 Open Mic at Zeppi's Pub Open mic at Zeppi's Pub, Qala, Gozo at 21:00, accepting poetry, music, spoken word stories and stand-up comedy. Organised by Inizjamed in collaboration with Spazju Kreattiv. JUNE 21 Annamaria Weldon: an evening of poetry and discussion Evening of poetry and discussion with acclaimed West Australian poet Annamaria Weldon at the Faculty of Arts Library, University of Malta at 19:00. Following a poetry reading Annamaria will be in discussion with Abigail Zammit. Weldon's latest book is The Lake's Apprentice. This year her personal essay for the anthology Purple Prose (Fremantle Press) was based on summers spent in Gozo with her grandparents at Marsalforn, and the Maltese connection to the Phoenicians. PUBLIC LECTURE JUNE 24 The role of women in WWII Talk on the role of women in WWII, with a focus on Malta, by researcher Simon Cusens at the courtyard of Castello Lanzun, Sanctuary Street, Mensija, San Gwann at 19:30. Organised by the Grand Commandery of the Castello (GCC), a jurisdiction of The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, and supported by Palazzo Prince d'Orange in Valletta, the talk is open to the public (advance reservations are recommended). Proceeds will go towards GCC charities, mainly for organisations assisting lepers in India and Uganda. To reserve a seat, one can donate a minimum of €15 to the charity fund.
