46 Events maltatoday, SUNDAY, 3 JULY 2016 KFC Gzira reopens with a fresh new look KFC Gzira has reopened its doors and now boasts a fresh new look after an extensive refurbishment. The opening was celebrated with a special visit from an imper- sonator of KFC's founder Colonel Sanders who also visited Sliema to meet and greet fans. On Sunday 12th June, a KFC photo booth was set up at the restaurant where cus- tomers could enjoy taking photos with their friends, as well as take a commemorative polaroid back home with them. "We are very proud to have taken such a leap forward with the KFC brand this year," said Mr John Bonello Ghio, Farsons Group Head of Food Business. "Earlier this year we opened our new store and drive thru in Mosta and our next step was to refresh our Gzira outlet. We know this restaurant has a special place in our custom- er's hearts, as it was one of the first KFC stores to be opened in Malta. It is now the newest looking res- taurant with the very latest design from KFC." The restaurant design celebrates the true essence and uniqueness of KFC, with Colonel Harland Sanders and the secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices being at the core of the concept. Colonel Sanders, the founder of the brand, opened the first KFC restaurant in 1930 in Kentucky, USA and developed the secret recipe in 1940. By 1964 there were more than 600 fran- chised KFC outlets around the world and the first KFC restaurant opened its doors in Malta in 1996. The design also brings to light the authenticity of the brand by emphasizing the way chicken is still freshly prepared daily by cooks in store, following the origi- nal recipe and method created by the brand's founder. The chicken at KFC is unique. By using genuine ingredients and freshly preparing and cooking the chicken throughout the day, our customers are sure to enjoy a fla- vourful meal. The aim for improv- ing the décor at the Gzira restau- rant, was to give our customers an all-round memorable experience when dining at KFC. Delivery to this outlet's delivery zones have also resumed. Fruitland representatives were invited to talk with prospective im- porters from Spain and took the opportunity to meet up with suppli- ers they are currently in negotiation with. This enforces the company's constant aim to strengthen already existing relationships as well as ex- pand its network and import the best possible products that are then provided to the local market. The Mercabana food estate is lo- cated in Barcelona, where over 700 companies are dedicated to market- ing their fresh produce. Around 350 firms specialise in the processing, packaging, distribution, importa- tion and exportation of fresh fruit, and Fruitland's representatives had the opportunity to get some useful insight from over the 40 years of ex- perience merchants had to share. Fruitland Company is a third-gen- eration of importer and distributor of fruit and vegetables. One of the ways of how it seeks to ensure that the provision of produce is of the highest possible quality is to main- tain a good relationship with their suppliers. Apart from Mercabana, the com- pany has sent members to the Berlin Fruit Logistica, another important event within the sector, and com- mitted to attending others by way of keeping abreast with both local and foreign updates within the fruit importation and distribution sector.
