Featuring: Stalko, Falcon's Flying Circus, Pyramid Suns, Lucy's Last, CRUX, Jack's Fusion, Sequenchill, Frankie Calleja, Robert Farrugia, Stimulus Timbre, Chris Tanti, Fabricka and KNTRL. JULY 21-23 Malta Jazz Festival The 26th edition of the Malta Jazz Festival – taking place at Ta' Liesse, Valletta from 20:00 – intends to create a vibrant jazz atmosphere all around Valletta. The events of Thursday night have been shifted from Ta' Liesse to Valletta centre with free concerts featuring headliners. The festival also strives to reach out to wider and younger audiences. The programme for this summer is highly eclectic and will feature a diversity of styles. JULY 22-31 Farsons Beer Festival Annual summer outdoor festival at the Ta' Qali National Park from 20:00. JULY 23 The Velts & heartsbeatingintime The Velts will be performing at The Funky Monkey, Manoel Island, Gzira at 21:00. With a DJ set by heartsbeatingintime (Uma Tee of Stolen Creep). JULY 27-31 Malta International Music Competition 2016 Taking place at Mdina Local Council at 07:00, MIMC assists emerging pianists, violinists, guitarists, composers and chamber music ensembles in their artistic development, encourages them to pursue careers and to provide a forum for their talents. Young musicians of any nation invited to participate. EXHIBITIONS JULY 15-17 Sliema Arts Festival Festival of street art and music across the Sliema promenade. Featuring international and local artists, an array of music genres, street art, graffiti, art exhibitions, still art paintings, chalk art, street dancers and live performances. UNTIL AUGUST 31 What One Sees Is What One Is Exhibition by John Paul Azzopardi at the National Museum of Natural History, Mdina. In the artist's signature style of using animal bones and detritus to craft sculptures, it will be showcasing the Acherontia atropos (Death's-head Hawk moth). Admission fee to the Museum applies. THEATRE & PERFORMANCE UNTIL SEPTEMBER Rock of Ages: Opening Night Opening night of the Maltese version of the popular Broadway musical at City Theatre, Valletta at 20:00. Directed by Nanette Brimmer. Featuring Joe Zammit, Davide Tucci, Julia Calvert, Steffi Thake, Maria Buckle, Antony Edridge, Chris Galea, Roger Tirazona, James Borg, John Marinelli, Michael Mangion, Joe Depasquale, Leander Schembri, Myron Ellul, Alexander Gatesy Lewis, Colin Willis, Becky D'Ugo, Mandy Randon, Naomi Said, Hannah Grech Pirotta, Jasmine Farrugia, Maria Cassar and Stephen Galea. To commemorate 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare, and this being MADC's 65th Shakespeare production, all opening night tickets will be sold at a discounted rate of €12. The rest of performances are all priced at €20. AUGUST 23-25 Kelma Kelma Nota Nota Three concerts combining Maltese music and literature at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta at 21:00. The first concert – Tlaqna Nghabbu – will be taking place between June 21 and 23; the second – Kuncert Bla Vat – between June 26 and 28 and Ghal Kbar Biss between August 23 and 25. Featuring Daniel Cauchi and the Big Band Brothers, Ray Calleja and Michael Spagnol. JULY 25 Puppet Show with Sean Briffa An interactive show for kids where the audience doesn't just participate but also helps shape the story by Sean Briffa at Eden Super Bowl, St Julian's at 16:00. More information and bookings: 2371 0777. JULY 14 Malta International Arts Festival Arvo Pärt Performance by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt at St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta at 19:30. Part, whose compositional style significantly changed the way we understand music, is known for his tintinnabuli style, a compositional technique which he created. Tickets are at €15 and €10.
