maltatoday, SUNDAY, 21 AUGUST 2016 32 This Week WHAT'S ON LITERATURE AUGUST 23 Meeting Marc Nair Part of the satellite events leading up to this year's edition of the Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival, an interview with the Singaporean poet and musician Marc Nair at Spazju Kreattiv (St James Cavalier) at 20:00. AUGUST 25-27 Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival 2016 The 11th edition of a festival that brings together writers from Malta, the Mediterranean and beyond to celebrate the music of words and discuss some of the major issues of our time. MUSIC & NIGHTLIFE TONIGHT AND AUGUST 25 & 28 Danielle Bitton live Performance by international singer Danielle Bitton at Casino Malta, St Julian's at 23:00. Bitton is classically trained by the best in both South Africa and New York. Her vocal abilities span the genres of jazz, pop, opera, Latin and rock. She sings in multiple languages and her versatility and natural talent is showcased in every dynamic performance. AUGUST 23-25 Kelma Kelma Nota Nota Three concerts combining Maltese music and literature at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta at 21:00. The first concert – Tlaqna Nghabbu – will be taking place between June 21 and 23; the second – Kuncert Bla Vat – between June 26 and 28 and Ghal Kbar Biss between August 23 and 25. Featuring Daniel Cauchi and the Big Band Brothers, Ray Calleja and Michael Spagnol. AUGUST 26 Rejects Asylum Concert of heavy music at Razzett L-Ahmar, Mosta at 20:00. Featuring Club Murder, Pyramid Suns and – in their stage debut – Align the Tide. Noel Mifsud and Mike Bugeja will be DJs for the night. Entrance is at €8. AUGUST 27 Falcon's Flying Circus album launch Classic rock band Falcon's Flying Circus will be launching their debut album – courtesy of Reciprocal Records – at Zion, Marsaskala at 20:30. They will be supported by Fuzzhoneys. Entrance is at €7, €12 with CD. AUGUST 28 Brikkuni live at Ta Fra Ben The folk-pop band Brikkuni will be performing their annual summer concert at Ta' Fra Ben, Bugibba at 18:00. They will be supported by Alexandra Alden. Entrance is at €10.50. EXHIBITIONS UNTIL AUGUST 31 What One Sees Is What One Is Exhibition by John Paul Azzopardi at the National Museum of Natural History, Mdina. In the artist's signature style of using animal bones and detritus to craft sculptures, it will be showcasing the Acherontia atropos (Death's-head Hawk moth). Admission fee to the Museum applies. TODAY MARA: A Celebration of Women Through Time Musical theatre performance by the New Victorians at the Manoel Theatre Studio Theatre, Valletta at 21:00. Cast includes Charlotte Stafrace, Bettina Paris, Mariele Zammit, Ruth Borg, Becky Camilleri, Corinne Camilleri, Tutzi Cassar, Tezara Camilleri, Nicole Carabott and Nicola Zarb. Jazz in the Garden Madliena Lodge will be hosting live jazz music in the evening at 19:30, by Angie Vella Zarb (vocals), Karl Galea (guitar), and Oliver Degabriele (double bass). The band will play outdoors in the garden lounge, for a breezy summer night of entertainment. Malta Artisan Markets Summer edition of the Malta Artisan Markets at Palazzo Parisio, Naxxar from 18:00 to 23:00. Visitors can find a range of pieces created by local artisans from jewellery, fashion, candles, ceramics, original art pieces, prints, children's toys, weaving and woodwork. Meeting Rodolfo Hasler Part of the satellite events leading up to this year's edition of the Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival, Jean Paul Borg will be interviewing the accomplished Cuban poet and translator Rodolfo Hasler at Spazju Kreattiv (St James Cavalier) at 20:00.
