maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 24 AUGUST 2016 17 Events Hundreds participate in Ray Ban summer challenges HUNDREDS of partygoers chal- lenged their comfort zone during the Ray-Ban summer campaign that encouraged them to open themselves up to new people and experiences. One of the challenges intro- duced over 400 people to com- plete strangers through a Blind Date Booth exclusively built by Ray-Ban as part of a social ex- periment. This formed part of the #IT- TAKESCOURAGE campaign launched in Malta at three high profile party events between June and August: Isle of MTV in Flori- ana, Sunscape Festival in Ramla Bay Gozo and Creamfields at Uno Village Ta Qali. Throughout the summer cam- paign, the legendary sunglasses brand called out to its followers to be the best version of them- selves, by trying new things and doing something they wouldn't normally do - such as going on a blind date with a total stranger. Inside the Blind Date Booth the two strangers took up a series of challenges in front of an auto- mated selfie camera. Challenges included making a duck face or jumping. The photos were up- loaded onto social media. Over 200 sets of people participated. Then there was the Henna Tat- too Wall challenge where those daring enough to take a leap in the dark placed their hand in one of two holes in the wall and had a surprise henna tattoo painted on it by artists Vojkan, Epic Tat- too or Ellen. In return they got a cool, colourful pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers! In fact, over 120 pairs were handed out. "This year we once again saw great interest in our summer campaign. In line with the true Ray-Ban spirit, we encouraged fans to open their heart to new friendships and relationships rather than limit themselves to their group of friends," Market- ing Manager at Class Optical, Helena Tua said. "The campaign tapped into people's desire to stand out, to challenge themselves and to take a leap in the dark. Yes, it takes courage, but the rewards are great." The Maltese edition of the campaign, brought to the island by Class Optical, Ray-Ban's offi- cial representatives in Malta, was also organised in other countries worldwide. Ray-Ban's official outlets in Malta can be located via www. eyewear.com.mt KRS to live stream 'The Beatles – Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years' in September KRS Releasing has pleasure in an- nouncing the release in Malta of Ron Howard's film 'The Beatles – Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years' only in cinemas. Featuring rare and exclusive footage, the film is produced with the full co-operation of Paul Mc- Cartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison. The film is based on the first part of the Beatles' career (1962 – 1966) – the period in which they toured and captured the world's acclaim. Ron Howard's film explores how John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr came together to become the ex- traordinary phenomenon 'The Beatles'. It will explore their in- ner workings – how they made decisions, created their music and built their collective career to- gether, all the while exploring the Beatles' extraordinary and unique musical gifts and their remarka- ble, complementary personalities. The film will hold its World Premiere in London's Leicester Square at 7.00pm (local time) on Thursday 15 September; a star- studded red carpet event which will be live streamed to local cin- emas, can be seen at Eden and Embassy, before the showing of the documentary along with 20 minutes of exclusive theatrical content. A full theatrical run will then follow the major event from Friday 16th September, at Eden, Embassy and Empire Cinemas. Zurrieq Carmelite Confraternity raises funds for Inspire during village feast LIKE many other parishes and villages, Żurrieq last month cel- ebrated its village feast – that of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. However, this wasn't just an- other village festa, because the Żurrieq community chose not only to celebrate, to have fun and to honour their patron saint, but to also make a practical and significant difference in the lives of people who need it most. Every year the Carmelite Con- fraternity of Żurrieq takes the initiative to raise funds for a charitable institution. This year it was agreed that proceeds from the Church 's offerings would be donated to Inspire. Both adults and children in the community contributed to this fundraising effort and during a solemn mass on the eve of the feast, the funds were also topped up by the con- fraternity to make up the sub- stantial sum of €1,315. Inspire depends on voluntary donations such as these, to be able to continue providing ser- vices and programmes to chil- dren and adults with various disabilities. Archpriest Dun Karm Mercieca, Inspire fundraising manager Claire Galea and the rector of the Carmelite Confraternity of Zurrieq, Francis Farrugia
