Stunning the audience of Brit- ain's Got Talent - including its notoriously brash judge, music mogul Simon Cowell, who ended up announcing that her time to shine has come - Aliki will be performing some of her best re- nowned projects, including songs from her latest debut album, Re- flections. The British-Cypriot soprano burst onto the global music scene in 2013 after her success in the 7th edition of Britain's Got Tal- ent. Graduating from Sheffield Uni- versity with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in both piano and voice, Aliki then studied Musical Thea- tre and Drama at HB Studio in New York on a scholarship and followed further classical stud- ies with renowned teachers and coaches such as Steven Crawford, one of the conductors of the Met- ropolitan Opera. She has studied closely with Tenor Armando Mo- ra and has taken master-classes with maestro Pier Giorgio Del Nunzio and maestro Marco Bal- teri. At Maestro & Friends 2016, she will join Maestro Yiannis Hadjiloizou and Malta's leading jammers, Red Electrick, in what is expected to be a memorable soirée for fans in Cyprus and those travelling from Malta. "Cyprus has a special place in my heart and I will be joining Maestro Yiannis Hadjiloizou and Red Electrick in this year's edi- tion of Maestro & Friends. This comes after the special concert for the 10th anniversary of the new Larnaca Airport," Aliki said, speaking of her participation in Maestro & Friends 2016. HBEU regularly organises vol- unteer days whether it is planting trees at local gardens or walk- ing dogs at the animal shelter. The aim is to make its staff more aware of various causes and to be able to spread as much joy as it can to charities in need. "At HBEU, we pride ourselves in volunteering to give a help- ing hand to those in need. Each and every year, all individuals at HBEU are given the opportunity to be part of a charity of their own choice. There are unique activities throughout the year for employees and their friends and family," People Experience and Recruitment Officer Rebecca Durke said. The most memorable experi- ence for HBEU volunteers so far in 2016 was at Dar tal-Providenza where individuals spent the day helping out in the kitchen, spend- ing quality time with the disabled, tending the garden, and assisting with thank you notes that the in- stitution sends to its donors. "We were grateful to have been given the opportunity to help the less fortunate and to be able to bring joy and put smiles on their faces," volunteer Matteo Bianchi said. A total of 14 charities have bene- fitted so far this year from HBEU's voluntary initiatives, including Europa Donna, Kids in Develop- ment, and Dar Sagra Familja. Dar Sagra Familja is a charity close to the heart of HBEU as it is very important to give children a good upbringing and a healthy education. Ahead of the start of summer, a number of HBEU employees went to the summer home of the charity in Birżebbuġa to give the place a good clean up and to welcome the kids to spend their summer by the sea.
