43 Events maltatoday, SUNDAY, 4 SEPTEMBER 2016 Former BBC Newsnight anchorman Jeremy Paxman is EY keynote speaker THE well-known journalist and broadcaster Jeremy Paxman is this year's keynote speaker at EY Malta's annual national confer- ence 'Malta attractiveness survey' to be held on 7 October. The con- ference, focusing on foreign in- vestment, will feature 50 speakers, and last year attracted almost 500 delegates. Jeremy Paxman is an award- winning journalist, author and television presenter. He spent eight years reporting from around the world for the BBC, before be- coming anchorman of the BBC's nightly news analysis programme, Newsnight in 1989, a post he held for 25 years. He has been chair- man of BBC 2's top-rating Univer- sity Challenge since 1994. In May 2014, he anchored Chan- nel 4's Election Night coverage. He is the author of numerous docu- mentaries and documentary se- ries – on the history of the British Empire, on the poet Wilfred Ow- en, on Victorian art, on Church- ill's funeral and on the effect of the First World War on Great Britain. His 2014 one-man show PAXO at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was a critically acclaimed sell-out. Jeremy Paxman is an honorary fellow of St Catharine's College, Cambridge, and a Fellow by Spe- cial Election at St Edmund Hall, Oxford. He also holds honorary doctorates from Leeds, Bradford and the Open University. He is the author of ten books, in- cluding The English - Portrait of a People; The Political Animal; On Royalty; The Victorians; Empire - What Ruling the World Did to the British. Great Britain's Great War was published in October 2013. His memoirs will be published in October, during the same week he will be in Malta for the Malta at- tractiveness survey event. He is a contributing editor at the Financial Times. His charitable interests include homelessness, mental health and education. In his spare time, he goes fly-fishing and is the editor of Fish, Fishing and the Meaning of Life. David Haye will be alongside Adam Roland from Heav y- weight Sports, and Stuart Tilly from Argyll Tech, the opera- tor behind the new Alan Brazil branded sportsbook BetOnBra- zil, to talk about how companies use brand ambassadors and how they can be effective in the gaming indus- try. Just a few hours after the panel d i s c u s s ion , Haye will be back for The BiG Sports C h a r i t y Gala Dinner, where he will be tak- ing photos with dinner guests and interviewed by Rugby Un- ion star, and host for the night, James Haskell. The Wasps f lanker was Player of the Se- ries as England whitewashed the Wallabies 3-0 in their own backyard this summer. SBC Events has teamed up with the BiG Foundation to co- host the third annual dinner, and attract a number of sport- ing superstars, which include Haye, Haskell, Ricky 'The Hit- man' Hatton, Ollie Phillips, Ly- ubomir Simeonov, and Ray Par- lour, a key member of Arsenal 's Premier League 'Invincibles' in 2004. The BiG Sports Charity Gala Dinner is just one of six events that make up Betting on Sports 2016, the largest sports bet- ting industry conference with more than 70 speakers and 600 delegates across Thursday 15th and Friday 16th September.
