Set in the darkest of times, when Turks pillaged and looted the Maltese islands, our story revolves around the Inguanez family and their three children: Lucia, Maria and Tinu. Lucia, the eldest, is betrothed to a young noble, Mikiel, despite being secretly in love with Ġamri, the baker's son, and the Inguanez family is confronted with a peculiar love triangle. Disaster strikes when the two younger children go missing, pulled down a well by Belliegħa, who is bored of her dull, monotonous life. Maria and Tinu find themselves in the underworld, home of forgotten mythical Maltese creatures, such as Babaw, Sarangu and Saħħar. The new selection presents six young and talented ensembles and being part of the selection process is a great honour and a formal recogni- tion of the success the Valletta festival has had over the past five years. The Ambronay Festival is a French opera and early music festival and one of the oldest and most famous festivals in Europe. The festival has re- cordings with labels such as the Auvidis label. Seven out of fourteen early recordings were with Jordi Savall, considered as one of the most eminent musi- cians within the baroque scene and who performed in the Val- letta International Baroque Festival earlier in 2016. This section of the Ambro- nay Festival concerning the E- emerging Ensembles is a pro- ject directly supported by the European Union. Kenneth Zammit Tabona
