21 Sport RUGBY BASKETBALL maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 28 SEPTEMBER 2016 DAMIAN NEILL TECHNICAL DIRECTOR AND NATIONAL COACH LAST weekend the Malta Rugby Foot- ball Union delivered, in partnership with the Scottish Rugby Union, a high- ly successful annual World Rugby and Rugby Europe Scrum and Rugby Ready workshop, with the purpose of provid- ing a safe and enjoyable experience for the Maltese community. By adopting the best practices in delivering high quality sessions and the law amend- ments to improve the game of Rugby Union on the Maltese Islands, for play- ers, coaches and match officials. This forthcoming weekend the MR- FU will deliver a strength and condi- tioning workshop, to further provide best practices on preparing athletes for performance on and off the field of play. The MRFU would also like to take this opportunity, to invite the public to the opening match of the season, between Swieqi Overseas RUFC and Sliema Stompers RFC, winners of last season's Cisk Lager League and Medi- terranean Bank Cup. Both will play for the Ray Elliot Cup. The Match takes place this Saturday at the Marsa Rugby Pitch, and kick off is at 13:00. Entrance is Free. MRFU gears up for a new season BOV Basketball Players of the Year announced DAVID Bugeja won the BOV Bas- ketball 1st Division Player of the Year award for Basketball while Alec Felice Pace won the BOV Basketball 2nd Division Player of the Year award for season 2015/2016. Bugeja was a main protagonist in Virtus' outstanding season where they won 5 awards, end- ing the season on a high beating Athleta 3-0 in the best-of-5 final. The versatile player constantly featured high in the scoresheets as well as earning a reputation as a tough defender Felice Pace had a dream season in 2015/2016. He was a main pro- tagonist in Starlites successful BOV Men's 2nd Division league as well as in the U19 league, where he was also voted Player of the Year. Stefan Abela, Community Re- lations Officer at Bank of Val- letta presented the winners with a commemorative trophy in the presence of Paul Sultana, Presi- dent of the Malta Basketball As- sociation.
