maltatoday, SUNDAY, 2 OCTOBER 2016 45 ORGANISED by Wicked Com- ics, this year's edition of the an- nual Malta Comic Con will move away from its traditional base in Valletta and to Ta' Qali. Tak- ing place at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC) on Saturday 3 December (10:00 to 18:00) and Sunday 4 December (11:00 to 19:00), this year will mark the eight edition of the in- creasingly popular celebration of comic books and the pop culture phenomena associated with them, such as video games and cosplay. Although the guest list for the event is yet to be announced, the Malta Comic Con traditionally hosts a varied array of local and international comic book creators – be they artists or writers – and apart from a few 'big name' stars from the globally popular US and UK markets, in recent years the Con has also been attracting a loy- al number of indie creators from other countries in the Mediter- ranean as well as countries like Ireland. In contrast to other large-scale cons around the world, the Malta Comic Con can offer an inti- mate experience to both guests and fans, as visitors will be able to interact with creators without the burden of queues that usually besets bigger events of this type. In fact, the accomplished American comic book artist and editor Renee Witterstaetter – and a former guest at the MCC – described it as "one of the best organised and culturally relevant events that I have ever attended," and one that "provides a venue for creative people from around the world to arrive, share views and ideas, and go back to their own countries to share their experi- ence". Speaking about the change in venue, Wicked Comics co- founder Chris Le Galle said that the convention has grown to the extent that finding the right ven- ue for it "has become a challenge worthy of an Avengers and Jus- tice League crossover". "Although help from fictitious characters was never going to materialise one thing we could count on was the understanding and support offered by Anita Mifsud and the rest of the MFCC crew who pro- vided us with the perfect venue to host our convention in," Le Galle said, adding that he was excited to explore the possibilities that the venue had to offer.
