44 Events maltatoday, SUNDAY, 9 OCTOBER 2016 HSBC sponsors TransLog for third year in a row HSBC Bank Malta and TransLog events extended their partnership in what the organisers are terming as a landmark year for the trans- port and logistics sectors. This renewed commitment pro- vides the industry with the choice of serious discussion platforms such as the recently held 2nd Lo- gistics Manager & Practitioner Forum, latest insights, and agenda for the future. "The extension of this partner- ship goes back to the concep- tual stage of TransLog, as HSBC believes that Malta is perfectly placed to benefit from a strong transport and logistics sector serving south of Europe and north of Africa," said Michel Cordina, Head of Commercial Banking at HSBC Malta. "Our Malta Trade for Growth initiative, a dedicated interna- tionalisation financing vehicle, has continuously attracted the at- tention of businesses in this sec- tor since the launch in 2013," he added. The 2nd Logistics Manager & Practitioner Forum had an ex- pansive programme including the progress the industry has made with the realisation of a Logistics Hub at Ħal Far and the creation of a dedicated business section at the Malta Chamber of Commerce. An educational workshop on Tuesday 4th October preceded the Forum. The TransLog platform is a concept of Support and Supply Management Group (SSM) and marketing communications agen- cy BPC International Limited. More information about Trans- log can be had at 2123 1015 and comm@ssmgroup.org HSBC Malta was the main sponsor of the Logistics Forum. "We are seeing an increase in the number of students who are choosing to travel by bus," said Daniel Grech, Commercial Di- rector at Malta Public Trans- port. "We have introduced this new service in order to offer stu- dents a quicker and alternative way to get to Junior College and University from the Bombi bus stop, which is very busy during peak times." HSBC contact centre raises a cup for World's Biggest Coffee Morning THE HSBC UK Contact Cen- tre Malta (UKCC) in Swatar joined in the 'World 's Biggest Coffee Morning' in aid of UK- based Macmillan Cancer Sup- port charity and raised not just baking agents but more than a total of €1,500. Staff members brought in more than 50 types of cakes, muffins, ftiras, and delicacies to raise the funds. A variety of fun activities such as 'Guess the Cake', 'Bake a Cake', and 'Pick n Mix', as well as a raf- f le and tea, coffee, and cake trolleys further sweetened the charity drive. The World 's Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan UK's biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. In 2015, the charity raised a record £27.6 million (€31.8 million). While Macmillan doesn't have a registered presence in Malta, its' support network is often the first point of recommen- dation by doctors in Malta to cancer patients and their fami- lies. "Giving back to society is a hallmark of HSBC and it's al- ways inspiring to see the en- thusiasm of our employees who join in and donate gener- ously over a coffee and cake," said Robert Vaughan, director, HSBC UKCC. The HSBC UKCC regularly organises various fundrais- ing and awareness activities to support the society it operates in, while staff frequently vol- unteer in the community. Ear- lier this year, the Contact Cen- tre raised and donated €1,500 to the Malta Dementia Soci- ety. The HSBC UKCC funds enabled the NGO to present Malta's first ever dementia- themed play in Maltese lan- guage. The play, Il-Masġar tal- Allat Siekta (The orchard of the silent gods), was presented on 2nd October as part of the Science in the City 2016 festi- val. Established in 2006, the Cen- tre has grown through the years with now more than 450 employees assisting UK cus- tomers. Exciting opportuni- ties exist to join HSBC UKCC Malta and be part of a great team. More information about these can be had at w w w.hsbc. com.mt/careers. The President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca paid a visit to LeoVegas Gaming Ltd – a sponsor of the President's Soli- darity Fun Run. Launched in 2012 in Sweden, LeoVegas' vision is to create the greatest gaming experi- ence and be number one in mobile gaming. H.E. The President started her visit at LeoVegas Gaming by going on a tour around the different de- partments in the company where she met and spoke to all employ- ees, including the two co-founders Mr. Gustaf Hagman and Mr. Robin Ramm-Ericson. The tour was fol- lowed by a meeting between H.E. The President and Leo-Vegas' sen- ior management. Johan Styrén, CEO of LeoVegas Gaming thanked Her Excellency for the visit and ex-plained how since the very beginning LeoVegas' man- tra has always been to do things mobile-first. With regards to the Malta office that opened in October 2012, Mr. Styrén said, "at the begin- ning we started with just around five employees and today we've grown to almost 250 professionals. Together we make up 15 nationali- ties and albeit this mixture, which is vital due to the different markets we operate in, some 25% of staff are Maltese. We've found great talent locally and we're glad that we have a great mix of nationalities in pretty much all departments." Mr. Styren also explained how LeoVegas is very active in terms of corporate social responsibility and has over the years supported a number of organisations. "We're honoured that for the first time, Le- oVegas is co-supporting the annual President's Solidarity Fun Run in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation," an-nounced Mr. Styrén. He also stated that as a gam- ing company, LeoVegas is very pro- active with responsible gaming ini- tiatives and offers all its customers a full range of tools and assistance. "We also support various organisa- tions that work with problem gam- blers as well as with their families and friends," concluded Mr. Styrén. Her Excellency, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta, thanked LeoVegas for their sup- port and praised their wide-ranging Corporate Social Responsibility, from philantropy to the environ- ment. Speaking about the Malta Community Chest Fund Founda- tion, Her Excellency said, "every month, the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation receives around 200 new applications for assistance and spends approx. €250,000 on chemotherapy and specialised care. I therefore thank Leo-Vegas for their support in the Fun Run and welcome more col- laboration between the iGaming in- dustry and the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation."
